QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 02:33 PM) I haven't experienced any issues with CoD: Advanced Warfare. Yet. No, that seems to be going fine and I think everything with Destiny was smooth as well. It's really hard to launch a big game today; you have concerns like servers that just weren't a thing before. That doesn't excuse Halo and such by any means. But there were still some massive bugs in old games that got through QA, including Nintendo-developed games. Search "Link to the Past exploration glitch" or "Super Mario 64 backwards long jump tutorial" for an idea of what I mean.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) Hopefully they had more luck with the game than I did. It took me two hours to install the game and once it finally installed the entire match-making system was down. I was really looking forward to playing some Halo 2 multiplayer, hopefully they get the server issues resolved soon. Ha, they did not. One of them got called into work and the other had to deal with slow download speeds for the 20 gig day 1 patch, then ran into the crappy matchmaking anyway. I've had about an hour playing custom games with friends and it was like I was a teenager again, just a blast and the game (Halo 2 in this case) still played fantastic if a little slow after all the Titanfall I've logged. But beyond that, matchmaking hasn't worked yet for me and I've been doing the Halo 1 campaign, which is fine for now. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) Kotaku had an articles about how many problems they have been having with online. It surprised me that they hadnt worked out most of the bugs before rolling it out. And they aren't small bugs. This is what 95% of people who own the game bought it for and it is flat broken. Kind of mind-boggling.

Kiley McDaniel / Fangraphs Top ChiSox Prospects
shysocks replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
I read this whole thing as soon as I saw the link tweeted out and it was great. As somebody who knows most of the names in the system and their positions but little else beyond a stat sheet, I found it especially helpful as an all-encompassing primer. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 06:52 PM) I wouldn't have complained either way. I think Kluber gets a bit of an edge because Felix pitched in such a pitcher-friendly park, which helps alleviate the difference in ERA a bit. I think the fact of the Indians' terrible defense caught on a little bit as well. That Kluber was able to put up the numbers he did in front of such a bad group may have swayed some people.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 05:12 PM) I would turn into a giant gorilla and climb buildings, beating them repeatedly until they were destroyed and crumbled to the ground. I imagine you'd be accompanied by a giant lizard and a giant wolf, probably.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) Money is no object to them. Never ending The Fielder and Fister trades indicate that it is, at least, a minimal object. -

QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 01:58 PM) Couldn't be that much, right? Good-not-great starter with two more years of cheap control before free agency. Although I guess that pretty well described Samardzija at the time of that trade. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) I wonder what kind of ridiculous package it'd take to get Cashner. Couldn't be that much, right? Good-not-great starter with two more years of cheap control before free agency. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 12:00 PM) We seriously just went through 2 years of b****ing about Thibs overplaying guys and Rose being put in a position to get hurt again when it didn't matter. "Why is he out there? Why is he playing if he's not 100%??" And then here he is taking time off so as not to needlessly aggravate/worsen an injury during a weak part of the schedule and people are b****ing about it! This is exactly what most of us wanted! It's moronic. Bingo. Perfectly said.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) Didn't we do this like 10 years ago while rocking out to Aerosmith? Armageddon had an asteroid. Deep Impact was the one with the comet. It is imperative that we all understand the difference.

People say the Cuba Serie Nacional is the rough competitive equivalent of A ball, if I remember right. Where does the Korean league relate?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 08:54 AM) Did any left handed relievers have a better 2014 than Miller? If you go by fWAR he was the 4th behind Aroldis Chapman, Jake McGee, and Sean Doolittle. None of them are available. He had a really good season and I'm not even trying to debate that. That doesn't change the fact that guys in his line of work fluctuate from dominant to mediocre and back all the time. The top 10 relievers by WAR in 2013 combined for 23.7; in 2014 those ten players combined for 11.9. The top 20 relievers in 2013 combined for 39.9; in 2014 the same guys had 22.9. The only four of that group who did not have a worse 2014 were Kimbrel, Doolittle, David Robertson, and Chapman. Of the top 20 relievers in 2014, 13 did not appear in the top 20 in 2013. I know that WAR isn't the ideal stat to use here but I think it gets my point across just fine. There's a good chance Miller will be fine next year. There's an equally good chance that somebody else is a better investment.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 08:59 PM) Let's make a LHRP the third highest paid player on the team? I hope we get outbid. 2014 was the only year this guy had any semblance of control. My thoughts exactly. Miller is a perfect illustration of the unpredictability of relief pitching. There is an available left-handed reliever who will have a better 2015 than Miller for a quarter the price. Just find who it is and get him. But don't pay top dollar for Miller.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) Here is a surprising statistic, which might change one's perspective: Quality starts in 2014: Max Scherzer 21 out of 33 starts. John Danks 20 out of 32 starts. That was using the old formula, which is 6 or more innings, 3 earned runs, or less. And we are considering giving Scherzer $25 Million for 6 years, while we are all desperate to unload Danks, and his contract. Very interesting!! Scherzer in quality starts: 1.46 ERA, average 7 IP Scherzer in non-QS: 7.02 ERA, average 6 IP Danks in quality starts: 2.48 ERA, average 6.2 IP Danks in non-QS: 9.43 ERA, 5.1 IP Scherzer is a much better pitcher.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 03:48 PM) Is any team crazy enough to offer a 30 year old 7-8 years? Even the Yankees aren't that dumb. Cano got a 10-year deal starting with his age 31 season. If you want pitchers, Cliff Lee signed a five year deal at age 32. Forgot the details of when Verlander's extension officially kicks in, but he'll be 37 when it ends.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) How do you define the money being right? The marginal benefit from another number 1 is less than the marginal benefit of using that money in places of real need. For example, a number 3 and a good LF would benefit the sox more than a number 1 That isn't necessarily true at all and the rotation remains a place of need. Another ace would replace the Carroll/Rienzo slot. Sale and Quintana's presence don't make that any less beneficial.

The Sox would have to give up some actual talent for Kendrick, even moreso if the Angels are taking on Danks, and Kendrick is a one year rental at a position where the Sox want to audition farm guys. Seems pretty unlikely.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) Surprised there isn't a thread about him yet. Surprisingly, the Sox have been linked to Scherzer by Hayes and Heyman so far as a dark horse to sign him. The money and years he is going to command is definitely scary, and I really hope the Sox don't sign him to a long lucrative contract. What are your guys thoughts on Scherzer? On the one hand, Scherzer is an undeniably good pitcher. On the other hand, a guy with his batted ball profile doesn't fit well at the Cell; bottom 10 of qualified pitchers in GB/FB last year. On the third hand, a strikeout guy fits well with the Sox defense. On the final hand, signing the most expensive pitcher in a given offseason is a bad idea and you should never ever do it.

A consensus of price tags for all the FA's
shysocks replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Interesting that the GM went with a one year deal for Headley. Makes me think that this GM might be stupid. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 09:10 AM) it all depends if the sox pick up an outfielder or not. if not, he can be a quickfix at a low price and he might not hurt the team that much, offensively speaking. Yeah, if the Sox somehow miss out on better guys I would gladly take Ichiro for a year. He can still do some things. But he's not Plan A.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 08:27 AM) I know to temper my excitement, but yesterday was really fun to watch despite the opponent. The team was really fluid and looked engaged from the tip. Eh, IMO Detroit is a rung above the woebegone East teams despite the early record. Not great but not an automatic walkover either. They have some talent. I sat second row sideline last night. First time I have been even remotely that close to the floor at an NBA game and it was a blast. One thing I learned: deciding to call a charge or a block can be incredibly difficult. Derrick wasn't even one step slow and he had some circus passes, as others have noted. Pau has to get his body language in check; on one pass from Rose to his ankles, in particular, he practically rolled his eyes out of his head before getting back on D. The way the UC erupted for Big Macs is still hilarious. And Benny remains the best mascot in sports.

Don't Overlook the Job Hahn's Doing on the South Side
shysocks replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
wite posted this in a different thread but I find it relevant here as well: I was hanging out with my dad yesterday, somebody who becomes increasingly grumpy about the White Sox each passing year. He was lamenting how the Sox stink and he wishes they had somebody like Theo Epstein to guide them to the promised land. I explained that Theo took over a 71-win team and has turned it into a 73-win team with a list of prospects that's ultimately worth the paper it's printed on. Some of that is my typical Cub bitterness, but in reality there will always be guys who rise far above their prospect standing and guys who crash and burn, and everything in between. The above quote is a testament to that. Basically **** the Cubs. -
I don't want anybody from group 1 but I picked Scherzer because he's really good. Also picked BMac, Rasmus, and LaRoche. K-Rod makes a certain degree of sense but I couldn't bring myself to vote for that Clowny McClown.
