  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 06:13 AM) If it is Tony Kemp, there is no reason for it not to be announced. I think that report is BS. He has to go through waiver process (obviously not an issue) but how many days is it when a guy is placed on waivers and announced as clearing or claimed?
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 12, 2017 -> 09:33 PM) Bryce Harper likely tore his ACL tonight Yep. Looked awful.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 04:14 PM) Why is Avi Garcia out against a LHP in Duffy? Maybe just day off? Injury? I assume if they were going to give him a break that he would just DH.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) Surprising prospect list not to be able to crack, but welcome aboard Burr! Yeah his numbers look solid.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) Randomly saw headline speculating on the Orioles interested in either Gonzalez or Holland this morning. Oh nice. Didn't see that.
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) Thanks, was unclear about that point. No problem. Of course, I think it's possible the Royals could put a claim on him with Cahill now on the dl. Any team hopefully willing to give up a lotto ticket for him is fine with me. You're probably right about him not clearing waivers.
  7. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 12:20 PM) A waiver deal with the Mariners would make sense. The Mariners rotation currently is rocking an xFIP over 5, yikes. They just lost their only good starter, Paxton, for 3-4 weeks with a pectoral strain. Would Migo clear waivers? Problem is I don't think he would. possibly would be he's basically replacement level. Can't hurt to try and see if they can grab another lotto ticket for one of them. And Hernandez out. MiGo doesn't need to clear waivers for a deal to happen. 8 AL Teams would have to pass on him before the Mariners could win a claim on him. The teams are: Tigers (unlikely), Blue Jays (unlikely), Rangers (unlikely), O's (probably unlikely), Royals (maybe), Angels (probably not), and then Twins.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) The good news about that is we'll get a good long look at some of the non top tier guys to see if they might be something. Guys like Gillaspie, Cordell, Engel, Delmonico and maybe if Tilson comes back from the dead should all get some good ab's to see if they're actually something. Not to mention guys like Leury and Davidson will get to try and prove that they're useful on a contending team. We'll learn a lot about a lot of guys in 2018. I meant in the sense of signing a free agent to plug a hole.
  9. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 11:22 AM) The draft and farm are vital aspects to the rebuild, but also cleaning up our books to have financial flexibility moving forward will be very important as we look to build a championship caliber roster. I fully expect us to be active in free agency after 2018 to start plugging holes The thing that sucks about that is, since some of our top prospect position players likely won't be up next year, you don't really know who is a "hole." And even if a guy or 2 do come up, a small cup of coffee at the MLB level isn't enough to know if a position is a hole or not.
  10. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) Who's leaving the big club? Hopefully MiGo in a waiver trade. But probably someone from the pen (Goldberg would be my guess).
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) This is hilarious. Moncada hits a game tying HR, then the game winning single and people are stil whining about Sale. Seriously, you've had 9 months to accept he's gone, get over it already. Anyway. I am f***ing thrilled with the trades and the Sox sweep over the Astros. Some younger guys are stepping up and contributing to these wins, as a fan, this is exactly the way I'd like to them win. And still currently have the second pick. All is going according to plan. Sidenote: how have the Giants played four more games than us?
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 06:43 AM) Have you not read some of the posts during a trade thread(s) when a poster or more disagrees about a return and the others jump down his or their neck(s) because of it? When their argument is: "they should have gotten more" without knowing what was offered, it's pretty stupid.
  13. QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) Thank you. ^he heard the interview too I see. That doesn't quite mean he think Jose is "over-rated." I know you hate Abreu but come on man.
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 09:44 AM) I mean, of course it's all a marketing ploy. Doesn't mean it's not cool. Yeah I really don't see why this would bother someone.
  15. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) In his chat today Dave Cameron said that if the Yankees make the wildcard game they should start Chapman and have the bullpen pitch the whole game and save Severino for Game 1 of the ALDS. I'd love to see that happen. Maybe have their best guy go about 3 innings, and then try to get by with the pen. Or go with their second and third best starter and have them go 2-3 innings each.
  16. A guy on my Sunday baseball team has the name Steve Johnson...so there's that.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) I like early extensions, but I thought the TA was a bit premature. There are still a lot of red flags, but he does have talent. We know he is capable of being a better fielder. I'm not giving up that this will ultimately be a bargain, but this year has been horrible obviously both on and off the field. I agree 100% and said so at the time. I know people have said just stuff like "put him on the DL to let him get his head straight" and "this season can't end soon enough for him". When rosters expand in September, if they wanted to, couldn't they just let him go start his off-season early to get his head straight while keeping him on the 40-man?
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) Who would even get excited about Tebow anyway? He hasn't played in the NFL in 5 years and his popularity peaked 7 or 8 years ago. Not saying I get the love for Tebow, but I'm pretty sure the stadiums he has played in so far have drawn significantly better when the team he is on plays there.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) I tend to support guys who provide 'moments.' I'm not saying he's the greatest thing ever, but he definitely was one of the best players on the team this season. In his first full season he raked some big-time home runs. Davidson and Avi arguably have several of the top 10 highlight moments of the season. As far as 'potential' Davidson definitely showed that. I despised Dunn but he was a veteran. I realize Davidson sucks and his advanced stats suck and project him to be a flop, but I do know he's had some of the team's Top 10 moments of a dreadful season. Hero worship?
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) Scott Merkin‏ @scottmerkin 3m3 minutes ago Matt Davidson to the DL with a right wrist contusion. Avisail Garcia returns from his very short injury rehab assignment Keeps the suck going I suppose. Replace a productive player with another productive player.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 10:01 AM) Flowers option will be picked up. Suzuki and Wieters are two of the worst framers in the game. Thought Wieters is interesting enough. Lucroy is probably going to get expensive. Too expensive for the Sox in their current situation. Honestly, if he will consider a 1-year deal, pillow type contract to try to rebuild value, I would consider signing him. Our payroll will be so low next year anyway.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) With the number of young pitchers we should have entering next year's rotation I won't scream "ick" at the concept of a veteran catcher, there are a couple guys in there who are good at handling pitching staffs (Tyler Flowers, Kurt Suzuki perhaps?, Lucroy, Wieters), but I dunno that I have a lot more confidence in any of them than the pair we currently have. I doubt Braves decline the option on Flowers and Wieters I would bet doesn't opt-out.
  23. Worth mentioning that sending him out for a rehab assignment made sense since he was in the lineup yesterday, a day in which the Sox didn't even play.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 05:43 PM) Ugh. Let Avi play in the bigs now. I'm sure it'll only be a 2-3 game stint.
  25. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) What's the point of going down to Charlotte to rehab, let him rehab with the big club, it's not like he's going hurt the team, it can't get much worse. He could certainly help the team scratch out a few wins though.
