Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) If it does just keep him for the 4 years Yeah if he's here past the trade deadline, factoring in next year's free agent market on pitching, I feel like there's a chance we may not see better offers than we are receiving now. Edit: I guess he would still make sense as an option for the current teams still in on him like the Astros and Pirates. But offers would possibly be the same at best.

Brazilian RHP Eric Pardinho: July 2nd Prospect
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) With the new rules, isnt this next July 2nd period a hard cap? You might be correct. I'll look later.

Brazilian RHP Eric Pardinho: July 2nd Prospect
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) Or skip it altogether and save money to make a run at Otani. Depends on when he comes over. He may wait it out until he isn't a restricted free agent and when that happens, it won't matter if we went over our bonus pool because he wouldn't counts towards that.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) Am I the only one who hates Judge, thinks he's nearly guaranteed to bust, and thinks that the likelihood of him busting only increases if he joins the White Sox organization? Honestly, I'd prefer Andujar to him. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) I am not a Judge fan really. I'd prefer Rutherford as a third piece in a Yankees deal I see mlb pitches eating Judge's 6'7" 275 lb strike zone alive, resulting in loads of strikeouts I would take the deal due to getting Torres and Frazier back. Judge would be a guy we could start in the OF right away and see if he can hit, but the other 2 would be the prizes in the proposed deal (though I think very unlikely).

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) I am not a Judge fan really. I'd prefer Rutherford as a third piece in a Yankees deal I don't see New York being willing to deal Torres + Frazier + Judge/Rutherford/Mateo/Kaprellian/Sheffield for Quintana though I see mlb pitches eating Judge's 6'7" 275 lb strike zone alive, resulting in loads of strikeouts I doubt they would be willing to deal Torres and Frazier in one deal honestly.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 12:07 PM) It's largely due to how expensive free agency has gotten Cheap seasons of young major league talent is very valuable vs. shelling out in free agency Many will disagree, but I tend to side on the proven major league talent almost always being superior in value to prospects. Quintana is a proven a well above average mlb starting pitcher, and his 4 seasons of control warrant 3 elite prospects True.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 12:01 PM) http://dawindycity.com/2017/01/12/chicago-...x-three-trades/ What do you guys think about these proposals? Sox Asking price for Quintana is currently "3 Elite Prospects" = Yankees: Frazier (OF), Torres (SS), and Judge (OF) Pirates: Glasnow (RHP), Meadows (OF), and Diaz © Astros: Reed (1B), Martes (RHP), and Tucker (OF) Rockies: Rodgers (SS/2B), Jeff Hoffman (RHP), and Tapia (OF) Todd Frazier Athletics: Holmes (RHP) and Chapman (3B) Braves: Sean Newcomb (LHP) and Kolby Allard (LHP) I don't see either of these deals as being realistic for one season of Frazier Abreu to the Rockies Rockies: Riley Pint (RHP) and Tom Murphy © I don't love that deal for the White Sox. Thoughts? I really love that Rockies, Pirates and Yankees one for Q. I would probably take either of those deals for Frazier. Probably no on the Abreu one.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) It is somewhat annoying that there are not many stupid organizations left in Baseball. 10 years ago some team like the brewers would be inexplicably involved because "you need an ace" Yeah it sucks that so many teams value their top prospects so much more now. Before it seemed like you would see so many blockbuster trades around the trade deadline and during winter meetings.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) I think the Goff pairing will last another decade. If Matty was given/took the opportunity I wouldnt be so sure. Although I really like Matt and enjoy when he is on I dont get the sense that the majority of listeners do too. It sucks for Matt though, he has paid his dues to at least get a shot even if it fails. I agree. I enjoy when Matt is covering for someone (although, that may just be because I wasn't a Terry fan).

QUOTE (pablo @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 11:20 AM) Anyone know the defensive abilities of Albies vs Anderson? Could be plausible to have Albies at SS, Moncada at 2B and Anderson in CF. Anderson looked very good at SS, don't get me wrong. But just a thought. And it's always possible that Anderson or Moncada turns into a dud over the next couple seasons. It doesn't hurt to have many guys who can cover the same position. Another point to my post above haha

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) This post needs all the stars. And honestly, it's part of the problem with getting something done with Atlanta. If you get something done with Albies as the position player headliner, then you almost have to move Moncada off of 2B right away. Albies doesn't seem to be that far away since he hit AAA last year, and Anderson is locked in at SS for the foreseeable future. It doesn't make sense to drill Moncada at 2B to then effectively block Albies - the prize of the Q trade... There's no issues with Moncada having to switch positions, guys. I agree to not switch him and have him play different spots over the course of the season but there is no issue with him working in the off-season to play another position if they decide after a 2 full years or so, he can't handle it. If a team's best prospect was also a 2B or SS and they were being offered in a deal, I wouldn't say no just because we have a guy here who can already play that position. That is stupid.

They might as well go all out next signing period.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) I would love to get an offensive monster type production out of second base as long as he can be at least average defensively. You move him to 3rd or center, it drops his offensive value down a notch in my book. While I agree, his bat may be good enough to play anywhere though.

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) Would hate to move Moncada to third. He is pretty vocal about strongly preferring second base. Whatever works for the team I am sure he would be OK with though. Confirmed. He did say he would do what's best for the team.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 09:32 AM) We have sifted through the Astros / Yankees / Red Sox / Nationals / Braves / Pirates / Mets / Rangers / Cubs / Dodgers / Blue Jays farms in discussing trades this offseason. Am I leaving any out haha? Rockies

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) Or move out of Chicago, try to get a gig in another city, and work your way back to Chicago, kind of like that Perkins guy did. Or never make it back to Chicago. Tough when there are so few opportunities. Goff did the same thing and seems to have worked out well for him.

Today is the day we get a concrete tweet from Nightengale/Rosenthal/Hayes about the Braves interest. And then we proceed to speculate and talk about that for about 5 days. I base that first sentence off nothing.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) Abbatacola should have given himself a radio name before he started. He probably would have made it easier on his career. Could have chopped off the "Abbata" in his name and went with Matt Cola. I can see it now: "Looking for something refreshing to listen to? Grab a Cola and Bernstein on 670 The Score!" Obviously can't happen since Goff is replacing Terry but you get the idea.

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 07:52 AM) The thing that's interesting (and I know this isn't a deciding factor in these negotiations) is that you have a noon show with two Cubs fans and an afternoon show with White Sox fans. In either case, Dan and Spiegs are sort of semi-fans, but their allegiances are well known. Love Jason Goff. He'll be a great match for Bernstein. Definitely. He'll be way better than Boers. I don't understand the love for the guy as a radio host (not familiar with his earlier work as a reporter though).

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 05:11 PM) I know Frazier under-performed last year but you'd rather have a AAAA bad IF, a oft injured RP and an OF with a bad back? No thanks. The Sox sold high on all three of those players, and as the saying goes, it's better to trade a player(s) a year too early rather than a year too late. Thank god I didn't have to waste my time typing that on my phone. Well said.

Man, we really needed a team like the Mets to overpay for McCutchen. And I mean like 3-4 really good prospects haha
