QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 28, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) Potential 2017 bullpen: Putnam, Petricka, Jones, Jennings, Burdi, Robertson, Ynoa? This is a solid pen when healthy, there are a lot of ifs, such as can Burdi succeed in the majors, health, Robertson putting it back together. I'd rather have Ynoa than Albers. I doubt they bring back Albers so we should be fine there. Minor league deal at best for depth. That pen definitely needs another lefty and long reliever though. Could see one of Putnam or Petricka moved.

The White Sox are so thin in the lefty reliever department that anyone bring in is a plus.

Zack Burdi not coming to Chicago this season

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 05:52 PM) I don't think it's an indication of much. They shouldn't start his clock. Robertson should be moved regardless of the plan for 2017 before his save % takes a really big nosedive. Same argument I had for Alexei's rebound year. Not getting any younger and still with enough value to get something in return. Don't wait til they are valueless. I am not for a total rebuild but moving valuable assets to get younger and create more payroll room should be considered for the over or nearing 30 years old assets. If he comes up now or starts in the bullpen on opening day next season, it doesn't effect when he would be arbitration/free agent eligible so his starting his clock doesn't matter. -

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 03:51 PM) That may be a clue as to if they are "going for it" in 2017. That's a valid point. -
Puig for Shields + Padres cash. This is what I would attempt.

Re-sign Jackson for 4th outfielder gig.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 04:33 PM) Rick Hahn said the direction of the team will be clear after the first or second move of the off season https://twitter.com/MLBBruceLevine/status/768920841413332992 Move 1: trading Sale or Q with everyone thinking rebuild. Move 2: signing a bat to help win ASAP making it clear what they want to do. Or move 2 doesn't happen and they do decide to rebuild. All I know is I can't wait for offseason speculation (yes the season is at that point haha).

Marc "Scrabble" traded to the Nationals. How the hell did he pass through waivers?
-
It's not a big deal. Having said that, it doesn't roll off the tongue and I'm never calling it that.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 05:34 PM) The Mets are like "GODDAMNIT WE DIDNT THINK WE WOULD HAVE TO KEEP PAYING YOU THIS MUCH" He makes less in each of the next 2 seasons than he did this year. And the way he's hit I don't think they'll mind that they'd have to try to resign him at a longer deal.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) Globe Life Stadium All of them named after a product of some sort are all bad except Cincinnati Petco, Progressive, Safeco, Wrigley, Citi, Tropicana, Target, Rogers, PNC, Miller, Coors, Comerica, Citizens, Chase, Busch and AT & T They are all the same so what the hell difference does it make. They would be named something if the money was right. Also, I do not think the White Sox have anything to do with this as it is not their stadium as they lease it from the state of Illinois. I also financed through them and they were awesome. David Hochberg has got to be pissed. Those at least flow better than this. I'm never calling it that. Will always be The Cell.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 07:27 AM) Whatever. It's just a good thing they don't listen to you. The funny thing is, you make it sound like you were the only person who wanted Desmond here, which is false. When I get time tonight, I will dig up MY post of signing him to replace Alexei a month or 2 before your June idea. It will be funny to see if you agreed with me. I tend to doubt it. Lol that's the best part of it. Him wanting the Sox to wait until after the draft and then acting like he wanted the Sox to sign him from the beginning. -
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) Would LA want Shields? I'd trade him for Puig in a HEARTBEAT. Add in the money the Sox get from the Padres and possibly if they are looking for a back-end arm.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) So Billy Butler missed the weekend series after Danny Valencia punched him right on the temple. Apparently some shoe guy was in the clubhouse and Valencia had some shoes he wasn't supposed to wear in games, only BP and warming up. He was wearing them in games, Butler thought it would be good to tell the rep Valencia was lying to him, and the fight started. Butler also egged him on according to a teammate. Said something along the lines of: "Your b**** ass isn't going to do anything about it." Also told the rep to drop Valencia. Apparently Butler isn't very liked around the clubhouse.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) Q seems to have figured out innings 5-7 now, and how to get out of those jams. Agree in the confidence in him now. He reminds me of Buehrle. Quietly goes about his business, will give you 200+ innings without overpowering stuff.

August 21st 2016 6th Inning Game Thread Finally Started
Bob Sacamano replied to Insp's topic in 2016 Season in Review
QUOTE (Insp @ Aug 21, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) The Sox must be ahead or else there would have been a game thread a lot sooner........... They basically range between 3-6 pages win or lose... -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 20, 2016 -> 07:49 AM) Could it be time to re-evaluate Leury Garcia? He has had a very good year at AAA, especially vs. RHP. Last year at Charlotte, he was actually better against LHP, while hitting around .300, overall. With his speed and defense, I'd like to see what he could do at second. He seems to have finally figured it out, and is still only 25. At the very least, maybe he could be a decent utility guy, at SS, 2B and CF. I think he could have value on the bench being able to play infield and outfield. Possibly a solid 25th man.

Hawk will keep working as long as he can
Bob Sacamano replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 11:23 PM) I hope Hawk will stay as long as he can do the job. Listening to Benetti ths season makes me appreciate Hawk all the more. Benetti is just awful. He distracts himself from the game by engaging in silly bantar with Stone and trying to appear clever and funny, which he isn't. Then a ball gets hit to short Left field and Benetti, consumed within his own conversation, finally reacts, "There's a ball hit deep to left Fi--el--ddddd.....oh it's caught by..." It becomes obvious that he isn't paying as much attention to the game as he is with formulating his next quip. Meanwhile, he has no feel for how hard the ball was hit, the trajectory, or whether the outfielder has already zoned it in and is on a clear path to make the catch. I am used to former major league players....pros in the announcing booth. Benetti is a disciple of Len Kaspar, and not a very good one. Sox need to make a change next season. Perhaps put Benetti on the radio side and get another play-by-play man for home gemes. Disagree but all entitled to our own opinions. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) OK. I agree. Chapman coming back makes too much sense. He even hinted it at his Cubs press conference. And I edited my post too late but I think your prediction is spot on. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) I don't think they will do a full rebuild, but I do think they will trade one of Q or Sale for prospects and a major league piece, probably Robertson as well, and see what they can put together. I was actually referring to the Yankees but I think you're spot on about the Sox.
