Of the two Rule 5 guys, I think they have a better chance of shielding Alberto since he’s a hard thrower and a pure reliever. They can just hide him in garbage time until he proves himself. If they can find a way to keep Paez as well and develop him in the minors, that would be nice.

I saw people discussing if Paez could be the PTBNL in the Hicks trade if the Sox like him but don’t want to keep him on the MLB roster. I’m not sure how that works though since he’s a Rule 5 guy.

I think Burke will have to show something early in the season or else he will move to the bullpen, which I truthfully wouldn’t hate. I think his stuff would play up. Cannon on the other hand is probably a lost cause at this point.

I honestly wouldn’t be that surprised if the rotation by the end of the season is entirely different than what it will be on Opening Day, except for maybe Shane Smith.

Is he not allowed to have an off game?

Schultz got replaced mid inning which is weird, hopefully he’s not hurt.

Sosa at 3B is kinda interesting. Wonder if they are trying to showcase him to other teams.

Even if his velo is the same, I think he will be better than a lot of people believe. Not being a hard thrower gives him less margin for error, but he can still develop into a quality pitcher.

Well he’s also like 78 years old. Hawk did the same thing towards the end.

I think Robert would have benefited a lot in this new look lineup and not having to be “the guy” anymore. But we’ll never know.

One of the main reasons I didn’t want to trade Robert. They don’t really have a middle of order right handed bat at the moment. Oh well.

This Will Gasparino kid from UCLA is having a monster start. Is he a legit draft prospect? Plays outfield which the Sox obviously need.

Would be nice. Not sure why they didn’t protect him in the first place.

Yeah, nobody is taking Benintendi’s contract. It’s whatever at this point. They might as well keep him for this season. If he has another dud year, hopefully they cut the cord early in 2027.

What did they say about the Sox?

Watching him pitch, you can tell he has potential. But he also has way too many uncompetitive pitches. I just don’t think they will have room to roster him. If this was last year or the year before, he probably makes the team.

Alberto is going back to the Rays, I fear.

I’d prioritize Baldwin over Kelenic, but that’s just me.

Doesn’t seem like Benintendi will be in the outfield all that much. In that case, there should be consistent at-bats for Baldwin in one of the corners. Let him play one position consistently and hopefully he’ll improve defensively.

Baldwin getting sent down would tick me off. He has already proved everything there is to prove in AAA. He needs regular at-bats at the MLB level.

Agreed. Hopefully Kay pitches well enough to get traded for something and then one of the prospects takes his spot.

Burke and Fedde better pitch well because there are a lot of guys coming for their spots.
