Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
ChiSoxFanMike replied to Fielder Jones's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As other people in this thread have stated, what’s in it for Ishbia then? Why would he pass up on the Twins opportunity that would presumably allow him to take over quickly in favor of this where he could have to wait for years until Jerry dies? It just doesn’t make sense. -

It’s just weird that this news was dropped in passing on a random Friday night. I feel like this should be a much bigger deal than it is and that the reactions would be way more positive if it really is happening. Perhaps the apathy of this fanbase right now plays a role in that. -

I mean I’m hyped too, but is this a guarantee to happen? I still don’t know what to make of all this. -

I mean realistically, what are they supposed to say? -

Well said. I’ve always felt the potential of this franchise has never been realized. They had the chance to do so at the beginning of the last rebuild but failed. New ownership would change everything. -
Nobody will trade for him. That’s the problem.
-
Can they even trade Tauchman this soon given that they just signed him this offseason? I’m not sure how that works.
-
Yeah I don’t disagree with that. It’s reminiscent of when they overpaid washed up Adam Eaton early in the offseason despite several better options still being in the board.
-
Taylor, Slater, and Tauchman should not prevent them from acquiring a guy like Canario.
-
Looks like he’s played all 3 outfield spots in the past. I’d definitely take him, especially if they plan on trading Robert.
-
Absolutely should be all over this. Would much rather give him a look than waste at-bats on Slater and Taylor.
-
Yeah, he definitely has things to work on and has less margin for error than other pitchers because he doesn’t throw hard. But I think it’s disingenuous to act like Thorpe got shelled every time he went out there.
-
Thorpe looked good for the most part in a small MLB sample until he got shelled in his last two starts. He then went on the IL so it’s fair to say he wasn’t healthy by that point. I think it is premature to say the book is out on him, though it would be nice if he had more velo.
-
Would have much preferred that to giving Martin Perez $5 million. Stuff on the margins like this is why the Guardians win and the Sox don’t.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert

Yeah that package doesn’t really move me. If they trade him to Toronto, I want Nimmala. -

Is there any legitimacy to this? https://www.bluejaysinsider.com/mlb-team/toronto-blue-jays/toronto-blue-jays-closing-in-on-trade-with-the-chicago-white-sox-for-luis-robert-jr -
Fair points. I’d say Vargas and Sosa are the starters at 3B and 2B on Opening Day because they are out of options. Colson maybe at SS if he has a good spring. Vaughn at 1B. Maybe they can rotate at DH some. There is a logjam to an extent, but hopefully there will be enough at-bats to go around to evaluate all these guys.
-
The Sox need help everywhere. If the Mets are basically giving Baty away, they might as well take him. Could give him a shot at 3B and move Vargas to 1B. Or move Baty to 1B. Just need to accumulate talent.
-
Truthfully I don’t really care how many games they lose this year as long as these younger players show some type of progress. At least there is a potential benefit to losing now unlike last year.
-
If they trade with the Mets, they might as well take Baty as a change of scenery type. Nothing to lose.
-
It would be one thing if they were bringing in veterans with actual upside as trade chips. But realistically, if a guy like Slater or Tauchman has a strong first half, what are they even going to get for them? Lotto tickets in Low A? These fringe guys like Colas, Fletcher, and DeLoach likely won’t amount to anything but this should be the year where they evaluate all these internal options. By the end of the season, they need to figure out who could be part of the future and who isn’t.
-
I don’t disagree. I’d rather see the Colas and DeLoach’s of the world get auditions than waste at-bats on Michael A. Taylor and Austin Slater. I think last year was so bad that Getz is almost overcorrecting too much from a depth standpoint on the position player side.
-
They needed bodies but don’t have any money to spend. This is what happens. A bunch of low upside garbage.
