I do think it is ridiculous that a player Eloy's age cannot play in the field. That he would be the full-time DH would limit the flexibility of that position. I know he got hurt playing left, but he also got hurt running to first.
-
Can't be real. Konerko has showed no interest in being connected with MLB since he retired. Loved the guy as a player. Don't want him near the team as a manager. Besides, neither he or his fans need his legacy stained like Ventura's.

Greg - You must stop this. You must really stop this.

From the start, JR has been a terrible communicator. He blamed things on the media, but that was nonsense. As time has gone on, he has become more and more reclusive. That does little to instill confidence in the organization as a whole. The Sox need a competent spokesman to talk to the fans and not just at SoxFest. But I don't think they know how to communicate with their own fan base because they have never understood their own fan base.
-
If there was a year to have SoxFest, 2023 would be the year. Yes, they would take some heat, but this would be a time to regain at least gain some trust with the fan base. In addition, a good off-season would help too. But if they are not going to have SoxFest, they could do one other thing: tell Steve Stone to shut up.

Any kind of so-called cancel culture has nothing to do with Ozzie. If he had said those things about Castro when he was manager of the White Sox, the controversy would have faded in time. But he said them in Miami, and the political situation there is drastically different. There was the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Professional politicians watch what they say in Southern Florida. Ozzie got in over his head because of his big mouth. There was the bad way he left the Sox, and the Marlins couldn't get rid of him fast enough. Don't forget his dumb sons. Ozzie forgot it is the team that matters, not his ego. He was not a victim. He did this to himself. Plus he was a lousy manager the last year he was with the Sox. Enough of Ozzie already.

After their Super Bowl win, the Bears drafted a running back. They knew Walter Payton didn't have much time left, and they thought ahead. The Abreau is almost the same. Jose doesn't have many years left and the Sox have to act. This is nothing against Abreau. It is just the normal cycle of a team turning to a younger player.
-
At this point, I have no intention of attending any games next season. The FO will have to do a lot to change my mind.

Let's hope Ozzie isn't coming back. Yes, it is really time to move on.

Will "core" players be traded before Spring Training?
Highland replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Exactly. After the injury to his hand, Robert should not have been in the lineup. He couldn't even hold onto the bat. This is when the macho stuff about playing hurt just doesn't make sense. I don't care how tough a player is, the human body will only let a person do so much. Then it begins to break down. Every time I saw him swing with one hand, I wondered what the White Sox were thinking. The guy just wasn't hurt, he was injured. I swear I have never seen something so stupid. But this is the White Sox. But remember this: it's the fans' fault. Just ask the baseball genius Stoney. -
[RUMORS] Possible clubhouse drama information leaked?
Highland replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Beckham may get better as time goes on; he's still new at this. But he does go on and on and has to learn to be more short-winded. I don't care how much Stone knows. I wish he would go away. -
I am like the White Sox. I have no 2023 plan.
-
Could Elvis be at second base in 2023?
-
I would like Abreu to stay, but Vaughn needs to be moved to first base. Normally Jose could stay as a DH, but the team is loaded with DHs. Either way, Jose would not stay with the Sox more than one season. Tough decision, but it has to be made. Do it now rather than later.

The image of Tony LaRussa announcing his own retirement has to be a kick in the teeth to Jerry Reinsdorf. He brought back LaRussa to make up for the 1986 firing, only to see LaRussa leave now in a more embarrassing way. As a result, the organization's credibility is at a real low, lower than after the 1994 strike, lower than after the 1997 White Flag Trade. So, what does JR do now?

Liam looking like this, Lynn limping all over the infield, Kopech getting knee surgery. So White Sox.

Kopech has knee surgery - expected to be ready for ST
Highland replied to maxjusttyped's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Kopech came up from the minors in August 2018. Since then, he has logged in a little of 200 innings. I don't know how much the Sox can count on him in 2023. I have never agreed with how his development has been handled. -
Hahn needs to go, but the problems go beyond him. Since the Reinsdorf-Einhorn group bought the team, there has been a familiar pattern. The team is losing, they get a group of good young players, and add some veterans. They get good, maybe even win a division. Then things go sour. Some injuries, a bad trade or two, some players age. Back to losing. With the exception of 2005, no World Series. Except for 2005, no playoff series won. The franchise needs to do some real self-examination, but I doubt that will happen. Okay, so LaRussa leaves, then what? Right now, they have two pitchers with knee problems. Is it truly back to losing?
-
I'd put him in the spot where he almost destroyed a franchise. Screw the stadium deal. That stadium was not built for the average fan, and, when it opened, looked like a giant toilet bowl.
-
Lynn was having trouble with his knee late in the game. Could barely get over to cover first.
-
I only hope the White Sox do a professional search for a manager. I've seen some employers spend more time hiring a minimum wage worker than the Sox when hiring a manager for a major league baseball team.

Will "core" players be traded before Spring Training?
Highland replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Cease and Robert are the only untouchables. I'd consider any other offers, but I still don't think there is a short-term solution to the White Sox. At least get a right-fielder and go from there. -
9/29/22 Sox vs Twins 12:10 Wanna Get Away Day
Highland replied to wegner's topic in 2022 Season in Review
I'll believe it when I see it. But the FO can't go into the offseason taking it for granted. -
Morrissey must be reading fan comments here...
Highland replied to Lip Man 1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sullivan isn't telling us what we don't know already. But what I briefly read from this arrogant guy is true. This organization is lacking and hoping for everyone to come back healthy isn't a solution. And making changes won't be easy. -
9/29/22 Sox vs Twins 12:10 Wanna Get Away Day
Highland replied to wegner's topic in 2022 Season in Review
This latest streak has demonstrated a few things. Yes, injuries hurt this team. But I also think many of us over-estimated this team. The White Sox are average at best, and, if they keep playing the string out like this, they will be below average. A healthy 2023 team does not guarantee a winning season. FO needs to face up to that. The fans have.
