This doesn't mean the White Sox will have an amazing year. I expected some amazing things after the 2020 season. Eloy and Robert looked like they were about to become an amazing middle part of the lineup and bring some real offense. It hasn't worked out that way. Not having LaRussa will help. But not everything can be blamed on LaRussa. I feel the same as I did last year. I know the team has talent, but I don't know if it will all meld together. During the early stages of the 2021 season, the White Sox were called the best team in the American League by many baseball observers. I don't hear that so much now.

One thing this team will have to prove is that they will hold up under a tough division race. In 2021, they had no real challenge, and even the clinching was anti-climatic. Last season they looked like they not prepared for the late season Guardians series, and they were swept in their own ballpark. They will need at least 90 wins to win the division. There will be no easy path.

Jason Benetti & Steve Stone back - options picked up
Highland replied to South Side Hit Men's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I realize that announcers will have to do their share of selling, but you're right. This is truly annoying, and I can't see how it does the sponser any good. It would make me sick if I had to do this every game. I am sure it makes Jason and Stone sick. -
The Sox FO did address a couple problems but that was about it. Hahn did say in so many words that the team wouldn't do anything over dramatic. It appears that they are hoping the core players of the rebuild will stay healthy enough to get the team into the playoffs. I don't know if the FO will do anything big at the trade deadline, if they do anything at all.
-
I think the team needs a third outfielder first.
-
The simple fact is there are more Cub fans than there are Sox fans. Secondly, the Cubs have a near cult following that no other major league franchise has, and that is something the Sox FO doesn't understand. Finally, there is no obligation for any fan to attend any game especially with a team that has only one World Series championship in nearly 125 years. And any feelings of entitlement that JR has won't change things. All the bitching about attendance changes nothing. Having respect for at least the die hard fans would help. One last fact: the White Sox were the first Chicago baseball team to draw 2,000,000 in a season.
-
Just get well, Liam. Everything else doesn't matter.
-
I don't believe they lost money, either, at least not $10 million. JR has been crying poor for over 40 years, but after 40 years, he still holds onto the team. Don't care what the team is valued at. It is not going to be sold, so I find the number meaningless.
-
I don't know if they want to move the needle. JR and the White Sox will hate the billboard, but it will only make JR more determined to keep the team. I doubt that a WS is in the near future.

Can't stand Stone. I don't care how much he knows. I wish he would leave and never return. -
Jesse Rogers: Sox Sign Benintendi - 5yr / $75M
Highland replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have nothing against this signing, but I don't understand this marketing. The offseason can only be described as so-so after a disappointing 2022 season. This is just another indication of a FO being out-of-touch. -
This defense is the worst in the history of the franchise. Any opposing team can score 30 just by showing up.
-
The trouble with this logic is that, except for 2005, the Sox have done terrible in the playoffs. Time after time they got their hats handed to them. It would be nice to see them win one playoff series or at least be competitive.

Liam Hendriks coming up in trade discussions

I know how talented Sale was, and he still may have plenty left. But he has anger management problems, big anger management problems. -
Rumor: TLR will (NOT*) be present for ST *update
Highland replied to ChiSox59's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I hope this rumor is just that...a rumor. -
Taking too many punches is one good way of putting it. The franchise has had some success, but it somehow shoots itself in the foot. Some fans dreamed of the team finally dominating the Chicago baseball market, but that's not happening. They send weird messages to fans like finishing in second is a great thing. They don't seem to care about repeating 2005, and that season is becoming a distant memory.
-
As far as I am concerned, the window is shut because I am convinced the FO is not committed to making this an elite American League franchise.
-
From appearances of this offseason, the FO thinks it can contend. Of course, that is if the core of impact players stay healthy all season. And that is a big if. But the FO really didn't make any big moves because it believes Eloy, Robert, Kopech, et all will all have good and relatively injury free seasons. 2023 will demonstrate what kind of "window" exists. If 2023 is just another mediocre season, decisions will have to be made because fans will truly lose patience. Regardless, I don't know how committed the FO is to advancing the team to the WS. Division title? Yes. World Series is another story.

I am at the point where I don't care who is in the booth anymore. Stone grates on me, but I've started tuning him out. -
Jesse Rogers: Sox Sign Benintendi - 5yr / $75M
Highland replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
But we all know the Sox don't make mega deals like this. This signing is more like it. They spend some money, get a decent player and hope for the best. They filled a hole. Now we have to hope Eloy and Robert can stay off the IL, and that is not a given. -

They needed an outfielder and got one. Anyone is a lot better than Vaughn out there looking for the center fielder to get everything. Looks like a good move to me. -
Elon would be a disaster. The Sox are in bad enough shape without this guy making things worse.
-
It is good the Sox are trying to sign a left fielder since they don't have one.
-
Of course, it was a farce. And another example of how bad things are getting. The owners are the ones driving costs up. While I think JR should spend more, I think these contracts are absurd. Regardless, the larger market teams are doing all they can to horde the talent. And I don't see the White Sox winning much of anything in the near future. Signing a player for 13 years is just plain decadent.

And this consortium of investors don't seem to give a crap about anything.
