  1. I disagree. BM has all the tools he needs to play MLB right now and given the dire prognostications for the team this season, no problem developing as the team takes shape with other new young players. The NBA is obviously an entirely different pro sport but consider how Matis Guzelis , a slightly built 20 year old is performing against much stronger NBA veterans. Many people doubted he would be "ready."
  2. Not going to happen....ever on the 78. That is a graveyard for any team that would move there -- franchise ender.
  3. IMO, Braden Montgomery will be up sometime this season. He looks like he has all the tools.
  4. I have been to Opening Days on the South side for many years. ODs have gotten a lot better every year since the Sox moved across the street. Now it's just a massive picnic. The feeling among the crowds is similar to what we have down Western Ave. with the SS Irish parade...everyone is in great spirits, smiling, and sharing a lot of camaraderie, drinks and food with family and friends. To me it's a sign of Spring and the baseball season to come. The games are usually played in cold conditions so the starting pitcher and the players (and us fans) need to soldier through that. Our OD starter may not have been the consensus pick based on match-ups and metrics, but rather for his grit and determination. I am 100% behind him and the team. Our group will have a great time, win or lose, rain or shine as we always do on Opening Day.
  5. Chase Meidroth (sorry) can be the lead-off man if he shows good plate discipline, extends at-bats, and draws walks. Colson Montgomery is a different creature, a lot of swing and miss...and he may have fvked himself by not winning the SS job outright in ST letting this kid take it.
  6. Eliminating the service time manipulation would simply shift the timetable for the strategy they use, not eliminate it.
  7. I agree with service time manipulation from the owners' point of view but not from the players' point of view. And really, if a team doesn't know whether they want to sign a player to a contract after he has played for them for several years, worn the jersey, established a fan base in town, is the expiration of extended team control his reward for that ? Frankly, the extra year of team control for essentially nothing seems like it could be unlawful if not unethical. This nonsense could be disposed of with a new CBA but you know the owners likely won't agree to that.
  8. Abusing the service time rules may appear to an owner or GM to make sense, but it just doesn't. I recall Kris Bryant madder than he11 when they kept him down. It really is unfair to players and I would add, to fans who want to see the best players on the field for every game.
  9. Need Vaughn to hit 25+. No excuses for him any more. Let's go Andrew.
  10. I am conflicted as I try to evaluate Colson Montgomery. On one hand, we know he handled SS defensively in ST and had one hit, a HR. Maybe he was slowed up because of his back . On the other, maybe he is what we thought he was, an oversized SS who did not prove to management that he can stick at that position. Compare how Teel's ST went albeit at a different position. He impressed management that he can handle his position at a major league level and that he has a good eye with some LH hitting power. Should be easy decisions in both cases. MLB is a game but beyond that it is a tough business that is not always fair to players. You have to bring it on the field when you have a shot. Think Eminem - Lose Yourself.
  11. I'm not sure the strategy accomplishes much in the long run. If a player performs at a high level after a few seasons, sign them to an extended contract at market value, or not. Why cheat a year out of their careers? It seems pimpy.
  12. Listen, read the entire article and try to read between the line a bit....including when Getz said: "He was great with the routine play." Yes but a Major league SS has to make a lot of plays that are not routine....plays in the hole or up the middle, tough throws etc. You can try to turn this into another tit-for-tat with me, but the fact is that major league scouts (for over a year) have questioned whether Montgomery will stick as a ML SS because of his size and how that impacts the kind of coordination and quickness required at that position. Colson himself understood what the demotion was about: "One of the biggest things was just to prove to them [that] I am a shortstop, and that’s what I’ve been doing and that’s what they’re telling me,” Montgomery said. “Just be consistent with my work. Doing the things I need to do every day to be professional and a big league shortstop.” After all this, he has to prove to them that he is a major league shortstop? That is telling.
  13. A story on Sox.com revealed that Colson's injury was not the only reason He got demoted to the minors. Getz and others in Sox management were just not convinced that Montgomery could stick at SS.....that is play mlb quality defense there.
  14. Baldwin swings 3-0, no outs man on first. Doesn't that dude know how to bunt?
  15. Dude, he will be 22 years old on April 16, 2025. It doesn't matter that he was playing for a college team last year. He's old enough to make a bid for the major leagues next season (his age 23 year) and maybe even as a Sept call-up.
  16. I don't have MLBTV so I just checked in with the gameday live website. I wonder how that throw from Braden Montgomery looked. Braden is the child prodigy....was in high school last year..
  17. The perception you refer to was justified and was rooted in the sight of the Robert Taylor Homes from the expressway. That hi-rise project (and Cabrini Green) have since been demolished and at least to some extent been replaced with affordable low rise housing around the city. Bridgeport though is not and never has been a bad neighborhood.
  18. Rate stadium, parking areas, ChiSox bar and grill, merchandise stores, concessions, etc, are a goldmine for the Sox and a money maker for taxpayers/ISFA. Sox just need to field a competitive/ interesting team that is fun to watch. Added ticket sales and viewership will follow. Look at how the Bulls have increased fan interest by assembling a young team that is starting to compete. If you watched their last two wins in Florida you know what I am talking about. No they are not going to win a championship any time soon, but their likeable young players are fun to watch. That is what we need on the South side and it has been a looooong time since we had that.
  19. Moving forward extending a lease does not mean extending the original terms of the lease. That is what the Sox and the ISFA are likely to do....enter a new Lease that is fair - one that benefits the franchise and provides revenue for the taxpayers.
  20. It is always hard to sell out the 500 level there. They are bad seats too far from the field and too high.
  21. HR power obviously is an important criteria in selecting players for the final roster. My preference would be to sacrifice some OBP and even a bit of Defense with a few big guys in there (Drury, Ramos) to get a few more bombs. Not Joey Gallo though. I think that Lee should be shopped. Anyone looking for catchers out there? Sox don't need him and Teel is already a lot better, IMO.
  22. Yeah who cares who will own and lead this franchise this season. I'm sure the GM and Manager don't wonder or care who they might be working for or whether they will be soon be terminated, and of course, most fans could care less, which is why dozens of posts speculating about this have accumulated here. Try another line of personal attack that isn't so transparent and maybe adds something to the content here. LMAO.
