2020 Hall of Fame Voting
All things considered, Minnie Minoso is still the best Player not in the hall. Lost 4-5 seasons due to social conditions beyond his control. Santo got in because he flamed out due to juvenile diabetes. Also beyond his control. I think Reinsdorf got the wrong guy in the hall. Baines was a helluva player, but Minnie ran circles around him.

White Sox Sign Robert to Extension
I would think Rick will be watched very carefully from opening day on. The Sox have done too much good work this winter just to let a dumb manager screw it up.

Sox still looking at Puig?
Would Hunter Pence be a better fit than Puig? Pence will be 37 next year, but still hits lefties pretty well. At his age he's well aware that he's not an every day player any more. Don't know about his defense in RF though.

So What Happens to Zack Collins?
I've had the same feeling. It makes me queasy just thinking about it.

So What Happens to Zack Collins?
I hope they don't trade him. Collins has a great eye at the plate and big power. As a third catcher he will likely get a chance due to injury, and the 26th roster spot makes it much easier to keep him at The MLB level. Left handed power bats can have a real impact if given the opportunity.

What would you consider a fair extension to be for Moncada?
Offer him 2x15+2x20+2x25. 6X20 total

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
Seems like the old Sox problem of stars and scrubs has been solved. Off season has added a lot of depth. During a 162 game season, this will be a big plus.

Sox In on Lindor? Crackpot Rumor?
I'd rather have Madrigal than TA any day of the year. Twice as many errors than walks, and a .399 BIP average.

White Sox sign Gio Gonzalez
Hope he's back on the purple kool aid.

Successful Plan B; What’s Next?
Would Keuchel cost more than 4/68? I don't love the guy, but he probably puts 2020 into play for the playoffs. I'm more optimistic long term on Sox starting pitching than most. With Dunning, Rodon, Stiever and 2-3 other minor leaguers coming up, 2021 could look different than today. Break down and give him the 4th year. Every chance you get to make the playoffs should be taken.

Successful Plan B; What’s Next?
Pitching for good teams might have something to do with his being a"winner". He's a solid if unspectacular starter now.

Successful Plan B; What’s Next?
Offer MadBum 3x30. Overpay but shorten the length. If not this, would anyone want Price 3x34? Probably get him for free if we agreed to take the whole contract. Sox need pitching, and the only way to get it seems to be accepting risk. Ryu might be cheaper than either option, but his arm will fall off inevitably.

Edwin Encarnacion
Didn't Collins look quite a lot better at the plate his 2nd time up? I thought that was the case, but at the end of the season I wasn't paying close attention.
-
Edwin Encarnacion
They would in a David Price deal.

Nomar/Leury platoon
Noticed that Leury and Nomar both have platoon splits that would dovetail nicely. Both guys are cheap and already on the roster. Also, Leury could enter games in the later innings to compensate for Mazara defensively. I remember Sheets/Lowenstein in Baltimore and together they out performed a lot of every day regulars. This would also free up money for more pitching. Is Rick smart enough of a manager to actually do it?

Edwin Encarnacion
Eventually even EE will begin to suck. He's 37 and getting older by the day. I'm not in love with ZC either, but he did have a .960 OPS at Charlotte last year. The only way to know if he'll hit is by giving him 200-300 plate appearances. Lots of good MLB players struggle a bit at first.
-
Edwin Encarnacion
I agree. We have enough 1B/DH types already. Mazara isn't much with the glove either. Also, McCann hits lefties pretty well. He could DH and pinch hit against them while not catching. 5 million is an overpay, but payroll is still pretty low.

Sox acquire Nomar Mazara for Steele Walker
3 months younger than Zack Collins. He still has a good chance to break out.

Why has Hahn failed?
while RH is a hack, He has gotten us to the cusp of success. Do we need a different horse to bring us across the finish line? This question will be answered by mid July.

Offseason 2019-2020 MLB Catch All Thread
Sox might want to think about Rick Porcello for an innings eating starter. Had a tough year in 2019. good bounce back candidate. Pitching in Boston with a juiced ball can be a real b**** for a location guy. I do like the fact that he always hits 10-13 hitters every year even with excellent control. never been afraid to come inside. If the Sox start scoring a good amount of runs next year, he might win 13-15 games.
-
Successful Plan B; What’s Next?
I believe he just stunk. Bad part about pitching in Boston. Mistakes almost always kill you.
-
Successful Plan B; What’s Next?
Hence the inclusion of Porcello. RP has a weird career pattern of being good every other year. Guess which year it is. One thing to like about Porcello also, is his willingness to pitch inside. He hits 10-12 hitters almost every year even with really good control. He knows his stuff isn't great so he actually pitches.

Successful Plan B; What’s Next?
Offer Strasburg 7 years 201 million. First 4 years 37.5 per. Last 3 17 per. Opt out after 4 years. Pay him when every one else is still earning peanuts. Sox have the money. Give him 2 days to decide. If he rejects it, move on to Rick Porcello. I'd actually rather have Porcello than Keuchel.

Sox in on MadBum
Checked Bums stats from last year. A very good year by any standard you choose.Only negative was homers. 30 dingers is a lot. On the other hand he's never done that before. Usually less than 20 a season. I'd rather pony up for Strasburg though.
