September 14, 20169 yr There's really nobody up to be excited about. Tilson and Narvaez are the only one who factor into 2017....Carlos Sanchez and Coats are filler, unless someone's really still on the Leury Garcia bandwagon. Actually, the biggest concern of most fans might be Avi Garcia turning in another "false positive" reading and steering the front office into status quo inactivity for 2017, other than swapping out managers.

Wow, I totally forgot Charlie Tilson existed. That poor guy.
September 14, 20169 yr QUOTE (zisk @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) why not let Saladino play center field for the rest of the season ? Because he's not an OF and he's doing just fine at 2B? Last time Saladino played the OF, he tore his UCL and needed Tommy John.
September 14, 20169 yr QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) Because he's not an OF and he's doing just fine at 2B? Last time Saladino played the OF, he tore his UCL and needed Tommy John. He has played the OF on three different occasions this season.
September 14, 20169 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) He has played the OF on three different occasions this season. For a grand total of 4 innings. The dude isn't an OF.
September 14, 20169 yr QUOTE (zisk @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) why not let Saladino play center field for the rest of the season ? While I do think your idea is terrible, welcome to Soxtalk! ? Saladino is a wizard in the infield and played there his whole life. I say let him be
September 14, 20169 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) He has played the OF on three different occasions this season. If I'm remembering correctly at least a couple of those times were when he was brought in as a 5th infielder.
September 14, 20169 yr QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 01:03 PM) For a grand total of 4 innings. The dude isn't an OF. Saladino or Anderson are the fastest most athletic sox players. I'd be willing to bet either one would make a fine center fielder in a very short time. T.A. is the shortstop of the future. Tyler would be even more valuable to the sox if he could also play outfield, ala Leury Garcia but with a real bat.
September 14, 20169 yr QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) Not sure Eaton is far off either. I think eaton is probably faster than both. In terms of speed, Anderson > Eaton > Saladino
September 14, 20169 yr QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 05:28 PM) In terms of speed, Anderson > Eaton > Saladino Yeah, I can't recall ever seen Saladino described with top end speed. Maybe a 55 tops? Eaton and Anderson are clearly above him.
September 14, 20169 yr Avi Garcia is the fastest, according to some brilliant minds...that's where you get all these arguments about quickest to top speed, fastest, best range, best top/cruising speed, explosiveness, fast twitch muscles, quick vs. fast, etc. Someone claimed Saladino had the best times to 1b out of the RH batter's box. Infield hits would be another indicator. Eaton's a leader there. Anderson's much more likely to hit into a DP.
September 15, 20169 yr Avi does have some high end too speed, but I have to imagine Anderson is fastest in a race of 1st to home. Eaton probably wins home to 1st because he's lefty and because Anderson's finish to his swing isn't conducive to getting out of the box quickly. Avi might actually be quicker to 1st. Saladino trails in all those, probably just above average speed overall.
September 15, 20169 yr QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 06:50 AM) trivia: Saladino stole 33 out of 37 in 2015 combined AAA/Majors. Unfortunately minor league numbers didn't hold up for Micah Johnson at all. Once you get to AA and above, it's a different story.
September 15, 20169 yr QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 07:50 AM) trivia: Saladino stole 33 out of 37 in 2015 combined AAA/Majors. I read last year he was in the top 4 or 5 in baseball being timed from 1st to 2nd. I haven't read anything this year. I think Hamilton, Dyson, and some other minor league type were the only players faster. He's a solid all around player. Not really eye popping. But valuable to have around.
September 15, 20169 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 07:52 AM) Unfortunately minor league numbers didn't hold up for Micah Johnson at all. Once you get to AA and above, it's a different story. You're basing that statement on the grand total of 38 games Micah Johnson has played in in which he has attempted 5 stolen bases?
September 15, 20169 yr QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 07:50 AM) trivia: Saladino stole 33 out of 37 in 2015 combined AAA/Majors. There is a difference between being fast, and having good base stealing technique. For example, while fast as hell, Adam Eaton is a terrible base stealer.
September 15, 20169 yr Is Anderson really faster than Eaton? I'd bet Eaton is faster from home to first, though his swing probably plays a bit into it.
September 15, 20169 yr QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) Is Anderson really faster than Eaton? Yes.
September 15, 20169 yr QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) Is Anderson really faster than Eaton? I'd bet Eaton is faster from home to first, though his swing probably plays a bit into it. That and the fact that he has 3-4 foot less to run to get there.
September 15, 20169 yr QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 12:11 PM) I wonder what Albers' 40 time would be. Probably more than Eaton + Anderson combined.
September 15, 20169 yr QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 12:11 PM) I wonder what Albers' 40 time would be. Of Mickeys? Probably 22 seconds or so
