No it wasn't. He clearly broke a rule with a cheap shot and everyone decided it was just fine. Why put a rule in place to protect the catcher and decide not to enforce it.

He broke the plate collision rule. The punishment is clear. He was out. The end. MLB didn't feel a fine was warranted and the Padres let it go.

Doesn't mean it was right. The umpire has the right to eject a player or the league can issue a fine or suspension if the play is deemed flagrant.

Going out of the baseline to collide with the catcher is not just a casual hit at the plate. His intent was to hit the catcher to knock the ball loose and he went out of the line of the plate to do it. That should be flagrant.

But obviously that is not Joe torre's definition so it will be interesting how future hits are handled.

That's a good angle, as I initially thought it was kind of ticky-tacky. That's pretty cut and dry that he went out of his way.

Totally this. The Cubs continue to be a dirty team, led by their manager who loves to justify that to the Cub-centric media who just eats it up.

Cubs are sending Kyle Schwarber to Class AAA Iowa. Not expected to be gone long but it is an opportunity to clear his head.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Q for Schwarber Straight up who says no?!

Finally realized Jon Jay needs to be in the lineup hitting leadoff every day , eh?

On a side-note, fixes my roster crunch in fantasy with Wilson Ramos coming off the dl soon.

Well it's a good thing nobody traded for him last off-season.

Would have been better off drafting Conforto as an advanced college bat in that draft. Both reached the majors around the same time, only Conforto can actually play the OF as well.

I don't know about you but I'm SHOOK! Mike Trout and Kyle Schwarber two best players in today's MLB without question

Totally shook. The Cubs are so dominant, they can send Babe Ruth II to AAA.

Hopefully Rick Hahn is calling his north side brethren and seeing what the price is for Schwarber.

Yes, I dont care what people say about the kid. He is down and out right now but I would put my money on him coming back and being an offensive monster eventually.

I mean, sure, if they would do a Schwarber for Fulmer swap or something to that effect I'd take it. But no way I'm giving up a Q or even Robertson unless I'm getting more back. Theo has absolutely no leverage in that trade scenario.

That's actually kind of a good idea.

A trade of Schwarber for Robertson is not something the Cubs would do but I would jump at that in a second. Robertson has no future with this Sox team and they obviously havent been bowled over with other deals. I think its a risk worth taking to get a guy with Schwarbers potential.

If you take away the fact he is a Cub, the history of everyone overly hyping him as a current player, and the fact a scout called him Babe F'ing Ruth I think a lot of people wouldnt be so hard on him as a prospect around here.

Yeah, I'd do Fulmer for Schwarber.

What makes anyone think he would improve in the Sox system? Based on history and him not being a pitcher I'd say no. Great move to send him down tho'. Of course that would be a great trade.

I would love a Schwarber for Robertson deal.

I really think the Sox can do better than Schwarber in a Robertson trade. Plus, where does Schwarber fit? Don't the Sox already have enough DH types as it is? Lastly, year 1 of arbitration starts in 2019 for Schwarber. Just not a great overall fit for this rebuild IMO.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 12:47 PM)
Yeah, I'd do Fulmer for Schwarber.

Well obviously. We've seen Schwarber be great before. We've never seen Fulmer be great. I can't imagine who wouldn't still take Schwarber over Fulmer at this point.

Schwarber is a DH. It's idiotic that he's on the Cubs. A lot of this blame goes the JM, too. That guy was insistent on making Schwarber leadoff for no good reason. He's a slugger. Bat him fifth.

The theory is he would get more fastballs leading off and benefit...it worked for Rizzo, fwiw.

Schwarber was still getting his walks but that average was unsightly that even in fWAR world it eventually became impossible to overlook. Probably wasn't comfortable there, and it drew even more attention to his struggles than hitting 6th - 9th.
