Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer

Featured Replies

So today we've had Rosenthal report that Wheeler has received a $100 mil offer, Heyman report that Wheeler was the Sox top pitching target, and Nightengale report that the Sox are going hard after Wheeler.  Not too hard to put these pieces together.

  • Honestly curious - do you think people think this type of stuff (posting in every thread at once) and the poop bit are funny?

  • we just saw two of the most expensive rotations in baseball squaring off in the World Series but yes spending on pitching is a terrible idea.

This can only mean one thing: We are getting absolutely zero movement until late January.

Now it is gonna be Wheels of fortune and Jocamania for the next week. Why do I bother, why do I bother?

hopefully Hector Gomez doesn't report it

How long until all the local Chicago writers report that the Sox offer is “nowhere near $100 mil and is closer to 4 years 62 mil”

Next three hours

I'm still shell shocked by Semien/Tatis, so I'm pretty ambivalent about the Joc thing.

Hector was right about the Machado stuff last year. I think he nailed the Sox offer perfectly

Please God no.

Jet Sports Management who represents Wheeler does not have history of prolonging contract talks.  At least the information I researched.

At least were not dealing with Boras and I forgot Machado's agent already... Lozano?

I can’t handle more of that BS. All the smoke suggests the Sox have put 5/100+ million in the table for Wheeler, and are a top suitor.

I cannot see the bidding going way higher than that.

When do we start saying this thing will be wrapped up in the next few days for three months?

That already started last week.

FWIW this actually already seems quicker. Machado didn't come to Chicago until like January right?

Or how about:

“this just seems like a last ditch effort to get the Sox to up their offer. This is ending soon”

at any hint or tweet that another team might be interested

Yeah, the good news is that we have heard from multiple people that Wheeler wants to get a deal finalized early.

How dare you?!?!?

I normally try to avoid this comparison, buuuuuuuuuuuuut should they land Wheeler it's almost uncanny how much the Sox off season is shaping up like the 14-15 cubs. A less sexy Jon Lester, a much more sexy Miggy Montero and someone is going to be a Dexter Fowler.

one of the reasons i wanted him last year was to give him a year to face lhp more and try and improve. But we have a good platoon boy in Engel.

Leury also hits LHP well.

We won't have any money left after Wheeler, so Lewis Brinson.

Lol.

Honestly tho, this will probably wrap up by next week at the latest. I remember last year, but this year's market seems quite different.

My only expectation is I will be blindsided by it wherever he ends up
