i wouldn’t hate the move. But it does tell us that they aren’t trying to win next year.

Yea. I don't think I'd be upset with a return like that. Just such an underwhelming move.

I agree.  Definitely not excited about it, even if the return is something like that or less.

The epiphany is...they aren’t trying to win period! Mint $, pretend to try (like the cheapskate who reaches for his wallet and pretends he’s willing to pay), and keep going.

Given that Mazara is going to be a 2nd year arb player this year, those guys already seem a little heavy to me. A dip in production next year and he's a non-tender candidate.

I don’t like this move, but if it happens, I’ll try to reserve judgment until I see how the entire offseason unfolds. If it means we spend big on pitching, I’ll be fine with it.

Serious question. Is Mazara an upgrade over Leury?

Yea I'd be fine with that (moreso Gonzalez than Rutherford) Otherwise... no.

I’d rather sign Calhoun. Like by a lot.

.844 OPS against RHP last year. Find him a platoon partner.

2016 this guy was a consensus top 20 prospect.BP had him at 5. His manager was on MLBN yesterday and said it was pretty much put up or shut up time for him.will only be 25. As we saw, can hit it a mile. Worth the gamble if it is for what some  have speculated. But I can also see why this would be kind of a downer for some.

Against RHP yes.  They form a somewhat decent platoon I guess.

Shittiest thing about Mazara is his defense.

I’m guessing Stiever and Rutherford

Yes offensively. More power.

That would be a "Rick Hahn Special" level of Hell No.

19 HRs in 115 games.  Only 24.

I can get on board with this.

I would not. Both aren’t any good so why not grab the guy that has a small chance of breaking out? Calhoun isn’t going to take the Sox to the playoffs so there’s no point.

Walker for Mazara is something I would be okay(as in not wanting to chase down some xanax with some scotch) with. He can DH against righties. They still need a real outfielder though.

Similar response here. This guy is a 2nd year arbitration eligible player who we might well let go after 1 year because in 2021 he'd make $7-$8 million.

Anytime you can add an overhyped 1 WAR player you do it.  He's not better than Leury.

Getting smoky in here...

Just stop!!

Like everyone said, it depends who we give up. Straight up for Fulmer and either Basabe, Adolfo, or Rutherford(which I hope not) may be a fair deal. But even so like I said, we have this player in our minor league system, Rutherford may be able to duplicate Mazara.
