Pretty affordable AAV. Screaming from the roof tops, for all the talk of catcher scarcity, they always seem to be a pretty affordable contract.

You expected a guy who has had one good year in his career at 30 and plays catcher, which historically aged poorly after 30, to get more than 4 years 4p million? I'm pretty shocked he locked up what he did.

The reason people have issues with you and I know you don't care but you use trigger words with which the more sensitive people take umbrage. It makes it seem like you are condescending and superior.

They could have brought him back for less.  Huge downgrade to the catcher position.

  • Here are some of the many reasons the White sox will go with Grandal instead of McCann. 1. Trading Grandal this season will be a challenge. Not sure who will take on big contracts like that after

McCann is getting paid $10 a year? What a steal for the Mets!

I had been holding out a small glimmer of hope.  Sorry to lose him but it was inevitable once Grandal was signed.  He did sign for a couple million per year more than I had envisioned.  Good for him...nice guy!

Yeah, huge downgrade. My goodness give this ignorance a rest.

Sox to James: James we have an offer you can't refuse: we'll pay you less, with less years, to get less playing time than you would in New York.

James: Where do I sign?

Does this help with Hendriks?

If the fear was Dombrowski would jump in....if they are gonna resign Realmuto wouldn't that suggest they probably aren't gonna get Hendriks too?

He would have signed with them for less before he hit free agency.

I think the Mets are going to regret paying him like a starter and viewing him as the solution to their problem at C.

Why would he sign a contract as a backup when it was obvious a couple teams needed a starter? Maybe if he was coming off a bad season but he was in a great position for a really nice contract. He would have been a fool not to test free agency.

Boo.

I'm gonna miss him.

Cohen signing him is not a surprise.

I see we both have something in common - we loathed Reinsdorf.

(Too bad it wasn"t his net worth. I would buy the Sox and make everyone forget the prior ownership in an heartbeat.

The only reason today this site wouldn't be talking about Springer in RF and Bauer in the rotation would have been they just didn't want to come here).

And Dunning would still be here.

Reinsdorf is a saint compared to Cohen. One thing Reinsdorf is right on, Cohen should never been allowed to own a major league baseball team. If Cohen loathes Reinsdorf, that’s a credit to Reinsdorf.

Because he liked it here and wanted to win here.  It's really too bad they couldn't get it done.

Yea I don't think there was any chance the Sox gave him 4 years. That's a great deal for him with the Mets.

I heard Liam Hendricks feels the same way. I would much rather give that $40M to him.

And how many millions less do you think he would have signed for?

If you had put 3/$24 on the table for him after 2019 I can’t imagine him turning it down.

Opinions vary.

If Not Cishek is to be believed, McCann wanted out last offseason

Obviously.....no one wants to be a backup in a FA showcase year.

Then it's a great lesson for players. Don't jump too soon. Test those free agent waters.

And we don't know if the Sox offered him an extension in the 8yr per range that was declined. McCann bet on himself and won.
