  • He’s still great on tv.  He’s absolutely brutal on Twitter.  He’s a yes man and he’s a condescending jackass on social media.

  • At least they didn't get roped along all off-season only to get Manny Machado's friends and relatives. It could be a lot worse.

  • So I just got a text from a buddy of mine who is very connected (to MLB not necessarily Sox). Said Sox are on fire right now and close on a couple sizeable moves.

$240 puts them massively into the tax ($230 including benefits and such). I will offer a strong bet that the White Sox will stay under the tax.

Sorry. Fat fingers. I meant 220. 10 under the first tax level.

The season starts in like 28 days Scott.

I get it’s his job, but got I hate Scott Merkin sometimes.

I don't want bad outfield defense either, but if the Sox are going to lock themselves into it, doing so on cheaper guys like Rosario is preferable to me than spending up for Schwaber or Castellanos.

After returning, Eloy was vastly improved defensively last year.

He is a PR outlet for the Sox. I've learn to live with it, but you have to take everything he writes/reports with a massive grain of salt.

All he has to do is add a $20 million/year deal and he's exactly the same distance from the tax.

Bryant an option if we don’t convert on those guys? Or is he too expensive?

I haven't heard him being an option.

He went to Michigan, you should hate him sometimes.

That would mean spending about $23-25 million (depending on how money for the $50 million prearb pool is counted which I still don't know).

I also cannot stand his occasional tweets about Michigan.

His issue is he breaks his bones when he trips on the grass.

I know that felt like a "they're doing their best but remember, if they don't add anyone, they still look really good with the guys they have." Almost setting us up for disappointment lol

Yeah cause TLR made him play at the warning track so he wouldn't kill himself.

Just joking with you man. Kimbrel is getting traded. They have plenty of room. Just glad we have some baseball coming and hope they actually add that ~$20M player…cough…Conforto.

Hmph, while Fangraphs and UZR didn't like his defense, both Statcast and DRS agree that he was an average OF last year and notably better than in previous years. Interesting.

And he still had more outfield collisions with the wall or other players than AV did playing out there all year. It's not just that Eloy is bad on defense, but he is a danger to himself and others while he's out there too.

He's a kinder, gentler Rongey.

My prediction:  Ron stops bringing up his plan to defect to the Cubs.

I was basically going off the eye test. He clearly worked on his foot speed, he was a much faster player when he returned both around the bases and in the outfield. His jumps are still not awesome, but they're certainly improved. And he's a young guy who works hard. I have no reason to believe that he won't continue to improve.

I figured you'd catch on the $20 million suggestion pretty easily.

And anyway, Kimbrel is still not worth $16 million this year.

Eloy's defense metrics have always been better than you'd expect. I don't think it's his bad defense that makes him unplayable out there, but rather the injury risk he causes for himself and anyone that comes in his vacinity because he's so clumsy out there.

He was visibly faster around the bases and in the outfield when he returned.

We’ll find out soon.

His sprint speed on statcast was about the same. He was like 1 percentile faster than he was pre-injury.
