The "White Sox" did nothing wrong in this situation.  Adolfo has had an infuriating inability to stay healthy enough to make any significant progress in his game which would allow him to become a major leaguer.  The kid hit the Arizona League in 2014.  Since that time he has played over 100 games in a single season twice.  Twice!  His top figure was 112 games.  In 1735 ABs over those seven seasons, he has struck out in 642 of them.  HIs OPS over that time is .754. Trust me, if the kid had stayed healthy enough to evaluate adequately, it would have been done.  If he had hit, he would have been given an opportunity to do it in Chicago, because we all know how big of a black hole that has been in recent years.  The kid's inability to stay healthy isn't the Sox fault.

Yeah just got squeezed in this case. I'm sure if they could trade him for something better than even just having him and the odd case he even passes waivers they would have.

Adolfo is the kind of player teams move in July for their help.   That's how the Sox get Medeiros et al for Soria et al.
And yet, when trading FOR the reliever, the Sox don't send their out of option/Rule 5 guys

well that's what Pilkington was.

General thoughts on Spring Training.

How do you define meaning and meaninglessness? Straight stats don't have much meaning in Spring ball but in-situ analysis of mechanics is a different story. e.g. Veteran Jim Bob may have developed a bad habit of opening up too early on breaking stuff and can get time to correct it. A young Joe Blow may have a hole in his swing against RHP that spring cam-analysis can at least reveal and give him a baseline as he moves to correct his address at the plate. Jose M. may not be stretching his stride quite far enough thus putting harmful strain on his shoulder as he compensates with arm speed in order to bring his 4-seam up to 97-98. And just to name names - Eloy might just get smarter about playing the field with some dedicated coaching that can be worked into the more open ended schedule of Spring Ball

Mechanics.

I have little doubt that many veterans consider ST nothing more than a warmup, but if they're smart, there are opportunities available to improve their game in March.

And HEY SOX! ST just might be a place to dedicate some real, no-shit time to working the fundamentals of team play in the field. Not to mention making the right moves on the basepaths etc.

I have a different take on April ball than most - but that's grist for another post.
