March 13, 20224 yr Never understood why no one has tried this guy as a RP. Maybe Sox will give him some run there. This should be a minor league deal.

Completely agree. I think he'd thrive too in s bullpen role. But if he does start/long relief I hope he is glued to Lance Lynn like a sponge. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/a-suggestion-for-vince-velasquez/

March 13, 20224 yr This seems like a replacement for a long relief role. They can't possible look at him as starter potential. Even as depth, I'd put Lopez and Lambert ahead of him.
March 13, 20224 yr Author lol “Cool, I had 16 strikeouts,” Velasquez said. “But I fucking threw all fastballs. OK, that’s unique. But it’s not part of pitching. It’s not pitching. It’s not sustainable at all.”
March 13, 20224 yr Teams will need lots of arms this year, especially us trying to stretch out kopech, dude throws hard maybe we can fix something

He's been terrible as a starter for some time; his stuff has always appeared much better than his production. I'd be surprised if the Sox let him start. Converting him to a RP might be a relatively savvy move. His injury history isn't good so who knows if he would hold up, but as a two pitch guy out of the pen (Fastball/CB or Slider) he might be able to get his velocity back up to 96+ as opposed to 93 that he was sitting as a starter last year. Honestly I'd rather run with Lopez as a spot guy over him, but I think Velasquez would have a better chance of turning himself into a viable reliever given his pitch repertoire. March 13, 20224 yr I’m still waiting for a move they make this offseason that makes them better at a spot than last year
March 13, 20224 yr So far NSC is 0 fer on the Sox moves even though he tries to make ir seem hes in the room.
March 13, 20224 yr All I know is this too is part of the long play for CONFORTO. The whole offseason is a saga that culminates in CONFORTO.
March 13, 20224 yr He has a lot of talent, but another guy who walks too many. Seems to have lost whatever he had. Maybe new scenery and coaching will help.
March 13, 20224 yr Just sign Conforto. I knew they were never going to invest significantly in a 6th SP. This definitely wouldn’t have been the insurance policy I selected, but oh well. Keuchel is and was always going to make 20 some starts whether you guys like it or not.
