OF Help at last!! White Sox acquire Haseley from Phils

Featured Replies

Don't celebrate too hard.

This guy is such a household name, that Rosenthal doesn't even know how to spell it correctly!

It's funny.  People see the obvious loss of production and development when you put Crochet into a limited role and limit his innings and growth, but want to do the exact same thing to a guy with just

It's gotta be Kimbrel or Burger.

I dont know much about Haseley but from a quick search:

1st round pick, 8th overall in 2017. Four picks ahead of Jake Burger.

Bats and throws lefty.

Can play CF.

Unimpressive offensive numbers in parts of 3 seasons in the Bigs.

I really liked him around draft time. Haven't paid attention since then.

Really loved Haseley in the draft. He did OK in the majors in 2019 and 2020, but his numbers in the minors and majors in 2021 are uninspired.

He left the team for personal reasons last year too.

or not.

Thoughts:

1. Kimbrel

2. Burger

Terrible.  We had 4+ years to give AAAA players like this their chance.  We did our time and deserve better.

Well, its not very exciting.  But he's a lefty and a good fielder.

Does he have options left? If he does and it doesn't cost much, it's a fine pick up.

No way they gave up Burger for this guy. It's either dumping Kimbrel's salary or a prospect far lower on the totem pole than Burger.

Looks like he has two options left

Also this would seemingly stick a fork in Micker Mania and that makes me a sad panda.

Who?

Maybe not. THE DREAM STAYS ALIVE.

I would love it if it was for Kimbrel, but I have to imagine the first thing to leak in the scenario would be "Phillies acquire Kimbrel" instead of "White Sox acquire Haisley...no word on the return".

You have a point.

Unless LaRussa has been eyeing him, and let's face it, if he was and wants him to play RF, he's no White Sox fan, you still can take fliers on guys. He was drafted very high, and started out OK. Change of scenery might be good.

I'd rather keep Kimbrel than dump him for nothing at this point.  Seems pretty obvious - albeit incredibly frustrating - Sox have no further plans to spend $.  So why are we trading Kimbrel exactly?

It has to be a low level minor league return if the return wasn't a headline in the story.  My guess, no Kimbrel, no Burger. Phillies might just need the roster slot.

I'm currently of the mindset that there is zero chance we are spending more money if we keep Kimbrel, and a slight chance we would add one more piece if we did trade him (even if that one more piece is a trade for a starting pitcher).
