Oh, lord. I understand sacrificing defense for offense, especially with the slump this team has been in, but........

So you prefer to keep Garcia there and in the lineup?

I can live with Harrison sucking offensively because they need someone reliable at 2B.

Yes. Stop hitting him third though!

He seems to be injured as well with as little as he has been playing.  I think it was a back issue. But I do agree his defense there is the better choice

No doubt.

Andrew Vaughn playing second base...
I'm trying to let that sink in. To wrap my mind around the image. I'm trying - I really am.

Didn't he do it in a game last year? Or was he just practicing there?

I don't know. This is absurd. Maybe we'll see Maddon put Trout at 2B for the Angels this weekend. He's a really good athlete y'know.

I really wish the White Sox would have acquired an actual second baseman.

I think Tony was just giving a stupid answer to a stupid question.

June 1st defensive lineup

Defensively LF to RF we have Moncada, Anderson and Sheets

Vaughn at 3B, Robert at SS, Burger at 2B, Abreu at 1B (he won't move)

And catching Dallas Keuchel today is Leury Garcia.

Ok agreed, putting players out of position is not a good idea. What makes more sense and this was discussed earlier on this board, is put Moncada at 2nd when he comes back and keep Burger at 3rd. That is a position Moncada played for us and the position the Sox expected him to play when they traded for him in the Chris Sale trade. Moncada isn't going to be that much worse than Garcia at 2nd defensively, but a ton better offensively that Garcia.

In general I am against Moncada going back to 2B because I don't want to see two defensive positions weakened at one time, but Moncada at 2B is a WAY better idea than Vaughn there.

Good question, and my answer is no.  I am fine with Burger at 2B.

Even that makes more sense than Vaughn at second...albeit not sure if insurance on his contract would cover it.

I’d entertain Burger once in a while at 2B, at least he has actually worked out there and played games there in Charlotte. Just leave Vaughn be though. He’s passible in LF, and with Eloy out there’s no reason to keep pushing him around.

Why not Abreu?  Grandal?  I mean, if we just totally untether ourselves from reality we can get a lot *more* flexible than that -- don't stop now, boys!

I remember that one time a poster suggested trading Adam LaRoche to the Cardinals, who would play him at second base.

This reminds me of that.

Hopefully the only time Vaughn sees second base is when he's doing a home run trot.
