May 8, 20223 yr My post in the other thread is that pitching looks like it will carry this club to at least 80 wins. Depending on how the offense does it might win anywhere from 85 to 95 I'd guess. Assuming no more bad injuries and the guys out come back strong. If not who knows. Just stay healthy FFS.
May 8, 20223 yr Once again, it seems like the most important player on the team is Yoan Moncada. If he's close to his 2019 form, he'll be a huge catalyst to offensive improvement. Even if he's 2021 Moncada, he'll still be a nice addition back.
May 8, 20223 yr Bullpen has been great and Kelly will be here soon to keep it strong. How Lynn is when he comes back will be a key to the rotation. Boy the offense needs a better approach. Situationally they are quite awful.

May 8, 20223 yr Getting back to .500 so quickly is huge. Sox were really looking like a team that might have a very very disappointing season. It's disappointing Vaughn got hurt and Sheets has been horrible. Moncada will be a huge key. Anyhow, if the Sox continue to reek against Central Division teams the year will be lousy. Those games are key and Sox have stunk versus the Central. I personally think the Sox have been more alert playing the Cubs and Bosox. Edited May 8, 20223 yr by greg775

Also it wasn't so much the fact that they were losing so many games it was more the fact that they were so bad in all those games and lacked basic fielding, batting or pitching ability that was the bigger concern. Bad teams yes and Wrigley is only technically a road game.

How bad they looked during the losing streak was alarming. A 5 game win streak doesn’t completely erase that. May 9, 20223 yr i’m still concerned. the bar here isn’t winning streaks, it’s being a legit championship contender. hard to see that as a reality when you struggle to hit right-handed starting pitchers. that can certainly improve as you get guys back and others rise to more historical norms. that said, right now it looks a lot like last year and last year wasn’t good enough.

Nobody should discount this winning streak but also nobody should deny the reality that Cleveland and especially the Yankees are hitting much better than the Cubs and Boston right now and we cant count on continuing to win games scoring 3-4 runs every game.

Well, the Red Sox fans also are already booing Trevor Story...who has a much better OPS than many Sox hitters. And Wacha has been one of the top 10 pickups of the offseason. Overall, though, their current legacy is colored by the Sale injury and losing both Betts and now likely Bogaerts as well to FA. Team in transition coming off a year they arguably overperformed in retrospect. And pretty clearly the second toughest division in baseball.

They were not one of the consensus picks for Top 5 postseasons. Cubs, Giants, Tigers, Mariners, Rangers, Blue Jays and Dodgers were all up there.
