He has zero chance to play SS and he swings the bat like he's underwater.

  • I don't quite understand how one can have a 30 grade run tool and play shortstop. Though I'm just a filthy casual draft fan.

  • It took like 15 minutes of clicking, but I finally got us there.

The rest of the writers don’t hate Gonzalez as much as us, but the write up is tough for the weaknesses.

But it’s not like law had this guy in the fifties. He said he’d be top ten most years.

Yea. It's not a terrible pick by any means, but just kind of boring. I do love the plate discipline aspect.

This is entirely @DirtySox's fault.

This board acting like it’s such a terrible pick is so funny. Would venture to guess that most posters have never seen the guy play.

If you hate it then it’s a great pick.

I was REALLY getting hyped, thinking we had a chance to take Teel there....something this organization desperately needed.

Bradfield to the Orioles. Watch him turn into Kenny Lofton.

What happened to drafting guys like Montgomery and Schultz?

Haha true! This board should trust the white Sox blindly!!!!

There were no lay ups at the Sox pick.

We need another shortstop prospect. Montgomery, Popeye, Sosa, Burrowes..

Well no, but people have such strong feelings based on a written scouting report about a guy they have never seen play.

They got scared imo.  Went safe as can be to protect their jobs

So are we assuming this was a Hahn pick over a Shirley pick?

Yeah, their track record is really good at identifying and developing talent. ?

I like the pick with recent history.  This pick in 2020 seems like a business as usual BS.

They talk about controlling strike zone as an organization....too bad the MLB doesn't do this but looks like recent drafts focus in this.

Tbh I have no idea about him, I was just excited for Teel + I tend to enjoy Shirley's tendency to, as @Y2Jimmy0 puts it, go "big game hunting."

So seeing that he's got real, real low grades as a runner at shortstop was a real deflation.

Saw him as high as #5 in mocks.  Wasn’t expected to slip this far.  I don’t know much of anything but I don’t get the hatred.

Brayden Taylor to Rays. Lasted much longer than I thought.

Hate the Brock Wilken pick for the Brewers. R/R 1st baseman. Hey, at least they didn't pick him 1-3.

He has good hands.

This screams a safe mediocre replacement for Anderson .  This way they can trade him.  It’s a mlb 2024/25 roster move not a long term plan.  This is a guy playing checkers not chess.

Same ole 'safe' drafting process....Safe meaning 'we'll sign him easily'.

You think Hahn would have realized that “safe” drafting ahead of a rebuild is a bad idea based on how the strategy failed last time and contributed to our competitive window rapidly ending.  That being said, at least this kid is a legit SS and not a DH pretending to be a C, a 1B pretending to be a 3B, a DH pretending to be a 1B, or a 5’5”, 150 pound 2B.  Still, not a fan of “safe” drafting (ESPN used the word at least five times when describing him) and makes me worry this is a Hahn pick and not Shirley’s.  Also, the 30 grade speed is a bit bothersome.
