Is Elvis Andrus a possibility to play second for us in 2023?

Featured Replies

I think this has been a great addition for us in recent weeks.   He's hit well and played solid defense.   I imagine he'll move to 2nd base when TA comes back and if this works out, I hope they'll look at resigning him for that position in 2023 (assuming he's open to the idea).   What do you think the market will be for him?   How much money would it take to sign him for next season?

Andrus is putting up an OPS he hasn't seen since 2017.  The WAR he is putting up is at a pace he hasn't seen since 2017. Elvis Andrus hasn't put up a full season bWAR or fWAR of over 2 since 2017

  • This thread is reminding me of Jimmy Rollins, except we have Romy and Sosa knocking on the door, Mendick on the roster, Colson and Rodriguez right behind them, and Leury under contract. I'm grate

See what he wants but I feel like they could stay in-house at 2B.

He hasn’t been all that useful of a player since 2017. Unless it’s dirt cheap we shouldn’t be looking to invest in him.

Yeah it would have to be really cheap for me.

Lol

Just stay in-house and spend for upgrades in the outfield. Go with Romy or Lenyn. Romy has looked good and probably has earned an early look or at least the option to compete in spring training.

Elvis has actually never played 2B in his MLB career. He might actually put up a 3 WAR season this year so you'd think he might get better offers to play SS this off-season. At the very least he'd get a deal like Simmons got this past off-season.

This. Honestly he'd be great in the Leury role. But that's it - and we already have Leury.

I've been a proponent of trading for him in the past, but that's when he was still stealing 20-30 bases a year and had a respectable OBP. I'd just be happy he's helping right now, because bad results are around the corner too. since coming to the sox this is his best OBP since 2017, his best slugging percentage of his career, his best OPS of his career, and his best batting average of his career. needless to say ... he's locked in right now and it's wild if somehow he becomes the savior to this team and we get to the playoffs in large part because of him -- but he's not this guy.

also ... we have Romy and Sosa and 2B is not a premium position. Even if those guys aren't really the long term answer either, it's not very smart to block them with Andrus at age 35.

I heard Palka and Delmonico are available and looking for a deal

Yeah just stick them in the 9 spot and see what they can do. They need some legit upgrades to other spots though.

Elvis has been great, but we’ve done enough spending needless money. Sox have plenty of options for second base.

Would like to keep him around. Right now he is really helping.

No.   Romy or Sosa (most likely Romy) should get 2B to start 2023 and bat them 9th.  Save the $$ for legit right fielder and a mid rotation starting pitcher.

If Romy/Sosa really suck, then address at trade deadline.

As a backup for dirt cheap, sure, I wouldn’t mind keeping him around.  But Leury still exists unfortunately and there are likely internal options better suited to grab the starting job full time.

No. Just No.

I think this is exactly the kind of move this organization would make and then sell it to their fans as a ? instead of the ? sandwich that it actually is

This is a curse thread if I've ever seen one.

When TA comes back they can IL one of the other slugs. Yoan should be injured by then. Retool for the playoffs and see what happens. Clown ? ? ? ? ?  show.

The real question should be can he and Leury switch contracts at this point

Yep. Great stop gap while TA has been out.

He fell into our lap at the perfect time...has been great...and is extra baggage when Tim returns.  I'm sure he will finish out the year with us and we will get to see him teamed with TA.  His salary would need to be around $5 million for RH to bite IMO.

Better than JR making a profit. $5 Mill should be player minimums.
