Just awful for the Sox. Twins aren’t close to being done either.

  • He lost $350M in total negotiations and $85M from the Twins. 7 years got lopped off his contract. The physical maybe mostly complete, but something is still clearly wrong.

I'm not sure I fully understand the logic behind "wow, the Twins are lucky Correa's medical risk profile turned out to be serious enough to scare multiple other teams away".  I guess time will tell.

Ouch. This is a kick to the nuts for the Sox.  Sox rebuild never stood a chance if JR wasn't going to pony up for any big time FA.

Minnesota once again pays someone a higher contract than any given in Sox history lol

Not yet. Now if they get Bauer, it gets interesting

Would be shocked if they don’t trade for a Marlins pitcher

Order your Carlos Correa Giants jersey

Order your Carlos Correa Twins jersey.....well maybe wait a bit.

The MEANS justifies the correction

And how quickly does this one fall apart too?

You'd think at this point, the teams all know what the issue is... But I guess I thougght that after his first failed contract so who knows

Weren't we already?

I guess the Twins know more about Correa's injury than the other teams, so they may be less likely to back out than the other teams.

He passed their physical last year so you gotta assume they know what they're getting into.

Waiting until he gets through the physical w/o any glaring red flags...

Sure, it's not 300M, but 200M is not an insignificant outlay for a club like Minnesota.  A one year deal is far less risky for them than 6/200+.

Technically wasn’t last years deal over $100 million, but with player opt outs?

I remember seeing something last week by a Giants writer that he had heard Correa’s ankle was terrifying and worse than people know.

I think you meant Giants

But yet the Sox max is 75 million lololol

33.3 mil a season. He helps make them better no doubt...but I wonder how much left they have to spend. Also...isn't it freaking weird that they didn't sign anyone else after he got those high priced contracts that fizzled...almost like they knew his medicals were bad...

Is there a chance he gets surgery and can't play much next year?

It was more than 1 year. The opt out was after 1st year. And they did over I think 10 year, $285M contract earlier in the off-season I think.

Sure looks like the physical won't be an issue this time around.

The only reason the Twins offered $200M a month after offering $280M is because their competition started dropping out. They already knew the medicals. They already know about the ankle. They saved $80M a month later because other teams got scared. What a slam dunk outcome for them.
