This is a good signing. Surprised he signed a NRI.  Makes you realize how FUCKING ASSININE the Leury contract is.

  • Misjudged the market once again

  • what anti-worker point are you trying to make here, exactly? You do this all the time. Yes, Tex, we all agree if this past season taught us 1 thing it's that the owners deserve to pocket more money, i

Could this be end of Leury Garcia?? Just pondering out loud.

We do just enough so people realize the franchise still has a heartbeat

Awesome clubhouse guy, great emergency pitcher

Presumably this is a minor league deal with an invite?

3 straight good minor league signings.  These are good to have. I guess I am assuming this is a MiLB deal

MLBTR said it is a NRI to spring training, so MiLB deal it is.

Could be worse as a bench piece, will be interesting to see how the overlap of him and Luery work.

Unless they decide not to go with their rookies due to Spring Training failures, he is a backup who is at Charlotte through April until someone in the infield gets hurt. Leury is on a big league contract, he won't be cut to start the year for a guy who has had a similar career so far. If and when someone gets hurt, he is now the first replacement in the organization.

It will be interesting to see how many of these guys opt out on May 1. They now have several guys who can do so, and if several of them do so before someone gets hurt in May or June they could be seriously scrambling to find warm bodies.

oh nice, happy with it as a minor league deal.

The Chicago Royals

I mean, he played 1 year there. So sure.

For the record, this gives the Sox some fall back space at 2B.

-You can see if Sosa is ready

-You can see if Romy is ready

-You can see if 2022 was injury related to Leury, or if he really is toast.

-If all of those other things fail, you have a safety net now.

I wish we would do the same in RF.  It is just smart organizational work.

exactly.  I do think Marisnik and Hamilton do help the OF as MiLB signing similar to this.  I do however want a legit #4 OF signing

This is the guy that should be on the roster vs. Leury.

sadly we are already paying Leury 5.5 million.

Not if we do a salary dump swap for an overpaid reliever in return.

With 4 bench spots, there is room for both. I have a hard time justifying a bench spot to either Sheets or Burger when Colas is up. No flexibility with either unless you want Burger to get some DH/1B at bats every once in a while and play him at 3B against some tough lefties.

Right.  This guy has career stats very similar to Leury and has been paid *breaks out calculator* about $8 million less than Leury over the past three years.  And Leury is owed $11 million still.

I'm totally fine with this as a MiLB deal. He crushes lefties.

Granted it was only for one year, but another Grifol guy.

We'll just trade our remaining international bonus money to get rid of his contract.  ?

But what team would want the Leury side of that dump?  Nobody has THAT much pitching

Please don't suggest it they're already thinking it.
