I was 1 foot off in my 450 guess earlier in the thread after he hit it. Stone said 440

They removed him from the 40-man but he didn’t have enough experience to opt for free agency. He was removed as he same day as someone (I think a pitcher) who did opt for free agency.

Glad to see no more crazy TLR lineups.

Moncada mere days from an unconditional release.

That financial hit might even bite a bit for JR to swallow.

Sarcasm meter extremely  elevated.

Burger can hit  but can't field. Moncada can field and can't hit anymore BUT makes millions of guaranteed dollars. Something has to give here. The only way out of this  is trading Burger. I  can't imagine anybody trading for Moncada or him being released.

Somebody tell Moncada that if he's gonna continue to bat left handed, he needs to look outer third, Jesus Christ this has been the book on this dude for over 2 years, fast balls inside, soft garbage outer third, and he still fucking pulls the ball

So can Burger play right? ?

No sir.

I haven't paid much attention to spring training gamethreads yet. Are we just enjoying baseball being back, or are we onto the phase of teethgnashing about not winning meaningless games?

Today was my first spring game.  Was very happy with no TLR, McEwing or Cairo around. With a great lineup, and very aggressive running game , basically the antithesis to TLR.

It's the White Sox.  We know how this story plays out.

That said, Sheets and Burger have negligible value to the rest of baseball...rebuilding teams aren't going to give up much to acquire a corner bat at a relatively advanced age.

Burger and Sheets still have MORE value to the Sox (injury insurance) than they do to any other organization...unless that team has a defensive specialist to coach him up, so to speak.

But the bat definitely plays.   Unfortunately, that's only 1/3rd or 40% of the battle at 3B/1B/DH.

I just hope Burger hits well enough to force the release of Luery. Burger, Romy, Marisnick, and Seby would be a decent bench.

Holding hands with TLR.

I'm wondering if the lack of shifting will allow Yaz to keep his OBP respectable even if the power doesn't return. A ~.340 OBP if he's catching regularly will be quite valuable even if it isn't aesthetically pleasing for most people to watch.

No shift will help Yaz.  Saw it today in two singles.

Zero explosiveness from Yoan's RH swing there

Maybe he should only hit left handed.

Didn't he actually hit better RH in 2021 or 22?

That’s what happens when you have the worst strikeout of any player this spring.

I know we hate Eloy in RF but maybe Burger as our DH instead of Colas in RF is best to start the year off with

Eloy just can't throw at all...arguably worse than Pollock.

Understood. No argument. I think his power is important in the perhaps likely event that Eloy goes down. And his power probably plays at 3rd  base more than we would like to admit. On a normal team he might be traded.

I've seen what happens when Eloy plays the outfield.. We have funerals.

Replace Marisnick with Sheets

Who would fill in for Robert in CF? Benintendi I guess? Seems like we would need a more permanent solution on the roster given Robert’s history.

In that scenario, Leury.

I don't see Sox breaking camp with Burger, or with Eloy/Leury as the 4th OF.

My guess is a bench of Zavala, Leury, Romy and Marisnick.  Call Sheets the RF and Eloy the DH, though it appears that may be somewhat of a time share with Romy also getting some RF reps.  I think they will (and should) send Colas to AAA for a month or so.

Yeah, and it even makes sense beyond service time manipulation.
