Well, there's no easy solutions stowed away just waiting at Charlotte either.

He assembled the pitching staffs for both Chicago and Charlotte....so f##k him.

Chris Getz - 2024 Players Acquisition Tracker

Pitchers:

  • Erick Fedde:  5.29 xERA | -0.1 fWAR
  • Mike Soroka:  6.96 xERA | -0.3 fWAR
  • Chris Flexen:  6.46 xERA | 0.0 fWAR
  • Jared Shuster:  2.55 xERA | 0.1 fWAR
  • Steven Wilson:  2.43 xERA | 0.2 fWAR
  • John Brebbia:  7.27 xERA | 0.0 fWAR
  • Tim Hill:  5.28 xERA | 0.0 fWAR
  • Bryan Shaw:  7.41 xERA | -0.1 fWAR
  • Dominic Leone:  8.27 xERA | -0.5 fWAR

Hitters:

  • Martin Maldonado:  -53 wRC+ | -0.7 fWAR
  • Nickly Lopez: 47 wRC+ | -0.1 fWAR
  • Paul DeJong: 145 wRC+ | 0.5 fWAR
  • Braden Shewmake:  13 wRC+ | -0.3 fWAR
  • Dominic Fletcher:  73 wRC+ | -0.1 fWAR
  • Kevin Pillar:  98 wRC+ | 0.1 fWAR
  • Robbie Grossman:  70 wRC+ | -0.1 fWAR

So adding it all up, Getz added 16 players to the roster and through 21 games has been able to get -1.4 fWAR from them.  Just for fun, these guys are on pace to provide roughly -11 fWAR on a straight line basis.  That is beyond Rick Hahn levels bad.

Fire Chris Getz and bring in someone who has actually accomplished something beyond just snitching out the past incompetent regime!

Ryan Poles for Sox GM!

He can perform both jobs simultaneously and save money for JR by taking just ONE salary.  Obviously Bears' salary quite a bit higher, we don't even need to ask.

There's the reverse precedent of Paul DePodesta/Jonah Hill of Moneyball to the Cleveland Browns, too.

"It’s going to take a nearly unprecedented turnaround for the Astros to reach the postseason. You have to go back more than 100 years to find the only team in AL/NL history -- the 1914 Boston Braves -- to make the playoffs after tallying at least 19 losses through its first 26 games."

Needless to say....not the greatest of odds.  Couldn't even make it anywhere near Memorial Day.

Chris Getz to speak with the media before today's game 👀

GMs speak with the media at the beginning of most homestands.  Since our beat writers are a bunch on wimps, it'll be a series of softball questions.

Sure…but at some point, the White Sox need the media more than the other way around.

It’s not like they have ever even been close in getting equal coverage to the Cubs, at least since the late 1980’s/early 1990’s.

The White Sox are pretty much in danger of becoming completely irrelevant.  Look at what happened to James Fegan.

And just the punchline for national writers to document exactly how NOT to do a rebuild/new stadium proposal.

At best…we’re not the A’s.  At least not yet.

Bump.

At this point, Rick Hahn has been a more productive GM for the White Sox over the past 12 months than Chris Getz.  Hell, I bet Haber’s laptop with a little ChatGPT could have built a better team than the shitshow Getz has put together.  It’s almost impossible to fathom, but there is a legit argument a first year GM should be one and done with him.  He’s simply been that bad on so many levels so far into his tenure.  I do look forward to hearing his Stan’s give him a complete free pass for everything that has gone wrong this season though.

Sticking with and rotating through washed veterans instead of trying to find some diamonds in the rough through waivers or other means is so puzzling to me. Just get Thorpe, Iriarte, and Montgomery at some point so we have something exciting to see.

Getz’s GM process thus far…

Step #1:  Sign a bunch of glove-first vets in the offseason to give prospects time to get ready in the minors and hope that good defense assists pitching acquisitions, mostly so they can be dealt for something at the trade deadline.

Step #2:  Glove-first vets fail miserably and the Sox incur injuries to their three best players, two of which should’ve been expected in Eloy and Moncada.  Sox off to their worst start in franchise history.

Step #3:  In false hopes of avoiding a franchise worst record, sign even more vets off the street, frantically call up prospects that aren’t ready for the majors yet, and pray that they perform well, completely tossing aside the offseason strategy employed in Step #1.

I will continue to repeat:

Replacing the GM, manager, or anybody else really is pointless until someone new owns the team.

Anybody who would be good at those jobs isn't going to want them, and even if they did, they wouldn't be given the resources to succeed.

At the very least Getz isn't giving out bad 3+ year deals that the next guy will be stuck with.

It's never pointless, but I do say anyone's total effectiveness would be severely diminished by JR's  meddling.

Putting someone in place whose effectiveness would be restrained is the definition of pointless.

Besides, Getz seems to be good at getting potentially useful returns for our crap, and not taking on future salary, which is the best track to take until there's a new owner.

Replacing Grifol may not be as pointless. As more of the older pieces get traded off and more of the young guys come up, we need a manager who can develop them and use them properly.
