Cease To Padres per Passan

Featured Replies

Given Bob’s latest USA Today article, it’s very clear that Cease is very much available.  As such, I thought it was time for a dedicated thread for rumors and trade ideas.

Obviously take with a huge grain of salt, but I’m getting this same vibe based on everything I’ve been reading.

You would have to think any team trying to win is interested. They should get a decent haul for him.

Just helping folks narrow down teams that might be interested

Orioles make too much sense, IMO. I like the idea of the Sox getting some of their close-to-the-majors guys, because they can’t really develop the ones far away.

Just makes too much sense for both sides.  The only challenge is Elias has been very measured in terms of go for it moves, although the team is now clearly in its competitive window so maybe he gets more aggressive.

When the Pirates traded Cole to the Astros, Cole was a year or 2 removed from his peak in Pittsburgh.  Still, they got a good haul on paper, although only Musgrove turned out to do anything (I think it was just him).  Cease seems to be in a similar position.

I want the Orioles as well. I really like their prospects moreso than most of the teams on that list.

Cardinals might be a player as well

This team is going to look vastly different in 2024, me thinks.

Half those teams weren't in the market at the deadline.  They were actually smart not to trade him then.

Orioles fan forum discussion on Cease.  Interesting read for those who want to get a sense of how others might value Dylan.  I will say these guys greatly overvalue their prospects and seem to think they will all pan out.

Cowser, Ortiz (if Montgomery cannot stick at SS he can be the guy there defensively, if not he can be 2B) and Povich for Cease.

If BAL says no, remind them they won as many playoff games in 23 as the Sox.

It was a small sample size, but Cowser looked horrific at the MLB level this season. Would rather go for Kjerstad personally.

I agree, I actually hope they look at some of the Cardinals guys.

I really think something like that makes sense.  I’m torn between Cowser and Kjerstad due to his power potential.  I know getting more athletic is a priority but LH power should be as well as long as we play at the Rate.

What Cardinals guys are you interested in?

I'm never opposed to more left handed savagery.

People keep floating Brendan Donovan’s name, I like him but feel like the centerpiece for Cease should have more upside than he does.

Be prepared to be disappointed in the return.

Kjerstad would be my pick.

Failing to trade everyone except Robert is malpractice. This team will lose 100+ next year with or without Cease. Get max value now.

Did you read the Orioles board linked? They don't even want to trade Kjerstad straight up for Cease.

If I were not a fan of the Sox I wouldn't be interested in acquiring him for anything more than a bag of baseballs.

Then they’re a bit ignorant to how trades work. Cease isn’t going to be given away for nothing. All that matters is what the Orioles FO views his value at. They got slapped in the playoffs because they failed to add to rotation talent, and it’s not exactly like there is a can’t miss option in the FA pool. Cease had a rough year last year but the stuff is still there and his 2022 performance was elite. If they want him, pay up.
