Also known as… every team in baseball would like Garret Crochet, except the Chicago White Sox.

Along with an owner who suddenly goes into anaphylactic shock at the mere mention of the word "extension."

This was a quote from Craig Breslow on the Red Sox subreddit forum...

We’ve asked a ton of our fans in terms of patience and tolerating finishes well below where the Red Sox should be. It’s time to deliver and that may mean taking a bite out of the future in order to prioritize what’s in the short term.” - Craig Breslow today

There was also a seperate thread on that site where one of their writers said the only untouchables are Duran, Anthony and Campbell.

Interesting news.  Nice find.

So Mayer + Montgomery could be a legit proposal.  But that also means so is Abreu, Casas, and Wong.

Jerry apologizes for a record setting season of losses.  Breslow apologizes for a .500 season.  A .500 season would be a success to Jerry.  There’s your difference between losers and winners.

It has been assumed that the White Sox will trade Garrett Crochet this winter, and while several teams continue to engage Chicago about the left-hander, there are suddenly more arms becoming available, presenting suitors with other alternatives.

The White Sox have received a number of hits on Crochet from clubs including the Brewers, Reds, Yankees and Mets, and while a trade is possible prior to the end of the Winter Meetings, a source indicated Monday that nothing was close.

“I’m not sure they really want to make a deal,” one rival executive said of the White Sox, noting Chicago’s asking price for Crochet. “There seems to be more and more pitching on the trade market that teams are motivated to move at this point.”

According to sources, those pitchers potentially available include Seattle’s Luis Castillo, Miami’s Jesús Luzardo, San Diego’s Dylan Cease, Houston’s Framber Valdez and St. Louis’ Sonny Gray. Of that group, Gray is the only one with a full no-trade clause in his contract.

Castillo is signed for $68.25 million over the next three years, with a vesting option for 2028 if he throws 180 innings during the 2027 season. The Mariners are loaded with starting pitching and need a bat, making Castillo a logical contract to move to acquire an impact hitter.

Gray is set to make $25 million in 2025 and $35 million in 2026, with a $30 million club option for 2026.

Cease and Valdez are arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter, set to become free agents next offseason. Like Crochet, Luzardo is under club control for two more years before becoming a free agent.

I laughed at that statement by the other exec.

FWIW, in 2017 Moncada did not look ready when he was called up. He wasn't called up because he was performing well at AAA, he was called up because Hahn traded Frazier and open spots meant high level prospects must come up. He had a lot of work to do and a really rough 2018.

In 80 AAA games his call up year he slashed .282 / .377 / .823 and was 22 years old. What more did they need to see from him down there?

An .823 OPS in Charlotte is simply not that impressive to me. For a #1 prospect in the big leagues? Dude struck out 102 times in 309 at bats. That's just not great at AAA, that would be among the worst K-rates in the leagues in the big leagues. I'd like to see him actually dominate AAA offensively at least for a month, and I'd like to see him showing signs of controlling that K-rate at least a little.

What was his problem in 2018? It was his approach and K-Rate, he was probably the only guy we've ever called up who was too patient, guys could throw him strikes and he still didn't swing.

If you don't want to trade impact prospects then you trade for the expensive guys, I guess. Bohm, Casas or Abreu seem like a lot for Castillo unless the Ms pick up his salary. Luzardo you'd be buying low, but he wasn't very good last year. Cease we all know (if the Padres somehow get "more" than the Sox did for him this board is gonna explode). Valdez is a premium starter without a lot of control left. I could see one of Bohm, Casas or Abreu going in a trade for him. Sonny Gray is in his mid 30s and is likely in decline. I don't think he'll fetch much.

Yeah, that statement caught my eye too.  Obviously most of these leaks are posturing, but hopefully Getz is doing something too insane with his asks.

Don’t like it one bit

I'd like to see Mauricio as part of the package

I love how DiPoto has kept alive the "major leaguer for major leaguer" deal type.

Anyway "But some mlb execs think they aren't motivated to move because their asks are so high" are so boiler plate. I'd imagine always prompted with a "do you think they are even gonna move him?".

God I can't wait until we are trying to acquire mlb talent again

Other than Jett, I'd like to see Carson Benge as a part of a Mets trade package.

i'm a jett fan. he is hitting, hitting and hitting

Doesn’t seem to me that a GM would feel the need to psychologically prep the fan base for trading away their second tier prospects. It would have to be someone fans have pencilled in, in their minds. Anthony, Meyer and Campbell are the only ones that realistically fit that description. IMO of course

Not last year.

True. But last year was pretty much a lost season due to a wrist injury and the subsequent debridement surgery on it. One hopes he bounces back. He had plenty of helium before last season.

Even the food accounts are letting me down. This is boring as hell.

Sounds like Fried to the Yankees, all we need now is for Corbin Burnes to go to the Giants or Blue Jays and the Red Sox fans are gonna do a complete 180 on Garrett Crochet

If both Fried and Burnes go elsewhere, Getz might even be able to insist on Anthony.

He should regardless but zero chance they trade Anthony. They'll probably pivot to like Eovaldi or Buehler
