  • The coolest player ever. Everyone else looked like a dork wearing a helmet in the field. He looked cool.

  • Finally. Much deserved!

Finally. Much deserved!

What cap and will he be smoking a cigarette?

This was long overdue to a great player.

Now the Hall has to respect Dick's wishes as he told Paul Sullivan of the Tribune in one of his last interviews that he wanted the Sox logo on his cap on his plaque.

Allen told Paul Sullivan in one of his last interviews that he wanted the Sox logo on his cap if he ever got in.

Should have been inducted a long time ago.  Dick Allen, a great ballplayer and most exciting White Sox player of all time.

Dick Allen was not only a great hitter, but a great baserunner, an excellent defensive first baseman, and one of the smartest ballplayers ever.

I remember that, I guess it will be up to his family.

Well, he is still called by his White Sox name, “Dick.”

he was Richie Allen with the Phillies.

congrats to Dick Allen. Long time coming and much deserved..

Dave "We Are Family" Parker of Pirates 1979 fame gets in as well...part of the Stargell/Chuck Tanner-led team that shocked the baseball world against BALT.

I remember pretty distinctly wanting to get his 1974 Topps rookie card when I started collecting in the 1980's.

Finally, the Sox organization and Allyn Family get some deserved kudos/praise.   But not much for JR here in terms of a spotlight to bask in.

YES!

The most talented player to put on a White Sox uniform. Dick Allen could do it all and do it better than anyone else.

Great day! My football team won and my fav Sox player is a HOF'er

I idolized him as a 10 year old. Also think he had the best season any Sox player ever had

Congratulations, @Dick Allen!

Dick Allen was a good, sometimes excellent player. He was no Hall of Famer. It seems politically motivated to me.

Please explain the politics.

Great news!!!!

Dick Allen was a stud.

At 21 years old Dick had to play minor league ball in the Jim Crow South during the Civil Rights Movement.  Then he was totally mistreated by the press in Philadelphia which led to some of the fans turning on him.

I know this is not what you are asking but I wanted to point out the real politics that had the biggest impact on Allen's life. The baseball politics and maneuvering of getting into the HoF is a talking point in itself.

I can see Dick Allen not impressing as a HOF player. His career was shortened by wear and tear. His 1972 was one of the great seasons. He came 6 hits from winning the triple crown. One squib single every 3 weeks.

Looking at Allen's career stats, one can make the case he's not a Hall of Famer. But if you actually saw him play, you would say different. As I have said before, you haven't seen a home run until you see a Dick Allen home run.
