Apparently he is 12 years old, 5'7" 140 lbs. The 29 other teams have been operating this way, the Sox finally started to get on their level. The only thing that could kill this deal if the way his body develops, something to monitor.
September 12, 2025Sep 12 With the limited resources and scouting budgets already made available by JR...this seems like such a huge risk if you have a big swing and miss. It's certainly gaining a lot of attention. Just the money for the buscone/agent alone is life changing. He seems to be at that age the equivalent of Yordan Alvarez for his age...but how does that project to any premium positions at such an early age? Is it enough validation that the Yankees were already in on him? How much of this is the piggyback effect? The last time the organization won a signing battle this high profile was Luis Robert, Jr.

Also MLB could institute a draft in the next CBA in 2027 .Of course under JR the Sox refused to operate the way most teams did and the one DR player they signed who turned into a superstar was traded before he played a single game in the Sox system. It would be perfect Sox timing to finally get in on the best pipeline for MLB talent outside of the domestic draft for the last 50 years for the MLB to now decide in 2027 to go to an international draft.

It has happened before.

September 13, 2025Sep 13 Playing at the top of the market is interesting. Can't imagine some under the table money prior to signing doesn't exist. I also notice that if it is paid in 2030, and there have been a lot of ifs already, it would be after Ishbia is in control. Could this be a signal that under him things will be different or am I over reading things?

September 18, 2025Sep 18 https://soxmachine.com/2025/09/white-sox-touting-early-international-gains-after-working-to-fix-broken-process Quote Mieses hit .285/.410/.415 in 44 games in the DSL, but could also wind up being remembered more for the Sox rebuilding relationships in the country. He has the same trainer as infielder Ransiel Herrera, a player the White Sox are now expected to make their top target for their 2029 class, whom league sources expect could fetch a $4 million signing bonus. Fegan dropped a nice nugget in this piece today. 2029 class so a ways away yet.
September 19, 2025Sep 19 wild they're spending more on international guys years out than the 2026-27 actual MLB roster...
September 20, 2025Sep 20 International free agency is so fucking shady. You might think the DR and other LA countries would pass laws preventing this kind of neocolonial, US-based child exploitation, but you have to think the lawmakers are getting paid off this too. The least shady country seems to be Cuba so it just becomes about having children renounce their citizenship in exchange for a couple hundred thousand dollars, if that. Ramos got US citizenship, Luis Robert is a mega millionaire, but what about these kids who defect and don't turn into anything? People without a country, totally disenfranchised. The whole system needs to change. https://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/2007-09-12-1926043731_x.htm "Some, like Yuniesky Betancourt of the Seattle Mariners and Orlando Hernandez of the New York Mets were nearly instant millionaires. But most - like Jesus Valdivia, who was cut after 33 days by the Devil Rays - lasted no more than a year or two in the minors." What happens to these dudes? Cuban Adjustment Act? There's no guarantee that policy will exist forever and it's only a path to 'permanent resident status' and not citizenship.
September 21, 2025Sep 21 On one hand it’s good to see Sox making effort to catch up in the IFA market. On the other hand, even if these kids pan out, we won’t see any major contributions from these targets until 2035..
