Until JR is gone, the last part will never happen. It is simply against JR's "philosophy" since he feels players make to much money the way it is. That stance hasn't changed sine he realized the price of winning after the 1983 season. The Belle signing was an outlier simply because he wanted to "pay back" the other owners for agreeing to settle the 94-95 labor dispute without a salary cap (which as recently as the last lockout he was sounding off about needing one). They continue to waste millions of dollars on stiffs, retreads, has-been's and injury prone guys but simply refuse to pay the going rate for superstar talent.

Grandal is treated like a punchline here, but the stat-head, framing nerds loved him. That was a big signing when it happened.

I'm glad your remain a negative voice of reason. There's no reason for us long time fans to buy into this b.s. JR has been selling for years. We could go away and shut up but when you are a lifelong fan it's tough to start rooting for some other team. It is mildly encouraging the farm system got ranked fourth. Another thing I found interesting is that he mentioned that because Teel and Meidroth are so advanced that it pushes the timeline forward. It makes me think he wants Teel, Meidroth, Quero and Montgomery advancing together.

This was the problem last time....we had our first wave of talent mixed in with the likes of Rodon, Abreu and Anderson...Robert/Moncada/Jimenez stalled out/got injured, there was never a second wave (Vaughn/Burger/Madrigal/Crochet) for various reasons, and the veterans we signed all started going backwards from 2021-22 onward (Keuchel/Grandal/Steak & Potatoes/Hendriks-Graveman-Kelly). They really need to get the timing right with this thing or it's going to be that 3-4 year abbreviated window like the 2014-2015 ROYALS. Of course, every SOX fan would give up anything in the world (well almost) for two consecutive WS appearances after the last 15 years or so being a White Sox fan. A team can't run a farm system by relying on only their first rounders to succeed in the majors. It's getting an international scouting flow working, it's maximizing the draft, and it's being able to target and grab players who are underperforming in other systems.

It should've been a big signing in a series of acquisitions to push the team over the top. The problem was that it turned out to be THE big signing while other gaping holes were never addressed.

It was a crazy amount, but mostly on the bullpen/pitching side of things... And then Romy Gonzalez suddenly blossomed into a solid contributor for the Red Sox after foundering on the rocks with the White Sox...in much the same way that Lenyn Sosa has bounced up and down.

Romy Gonzalez blossomed into a solid utility player who has a good manager that picks his spots to succeed. If Gonzalez was on the WSox, he would have started at 2B, become overexposed, and wound up OPSing .540.

Hed get signed by the white Sox at age 33, then started at 2b and wound up with a .540 OPS.

Thats exactly what a team in their position should be doing. They’re not trying to win, they’re not at the point yet. The best case scenario for the Sox this season is that they end up with the first overall pick in the draft.
