Sox trade Marinaccio for $ considerations

Haha, cash considerations.  Jerry’s favorite.  The cynical side of me says that they DFA Marinaccio over Scholtens because they knew they could get something for Marinaccio (e.g., cash).  I know it’s just a minor move but I see no way that keeping Scholtens over Marinaccio makes your bullpen better.  And if someone wants to argue that the Sox will need a terrible arm to throw a lot of innings as a long man in garbage time, just bring back Touki.  He’s a free agent.

Once they plugged Scholtens in as a starter, he had strong outings against Texas, Cleveland and Baltimore (in 2023). He's a serviceable arm who can start.

Funny how people are screaming that there's no bullpen arms, but cry when one is let go.

However, I think a rehabbing Scholtens could have snuck through waivers. Marinaccio got all the way down to the Padres.

Serviceable?  As a starter in 11 starts, Scholtens put up the following numbers:

0-6 record

5.87 ERA

1.66 WHIP

53.2 IP

71 hits (10 HR)

38 strikeouts

18 walks

The dude is putrid.

Touki doesn’t have options, which is the entire logic of keeping Scholtens.

I can understand why they’d keep Scholtens around, but let’s not pretend he is actually any good.  He is simply an arm that you can use & abuse as needed because he’s not an actual prospect and has options.

just for accuracy, he was traded, not claimed on waivers.

Okay, we'll just put you down as "not understanding depth".

I thought auto-correct played a trick on me, but I clearly said "serviceable". I'm pretty sure we're in agreement.
