Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.

Being right and “winning” the argument has become more important than anything else.

Unfortunately, the only “right” decision was to trade him in the 2023-2024 offseason once the Sox decided to go scorched earth rebuild. The longer they wait, the more his trade value declines. That’s just the reality of the situation.

Getting Robert to a respectable trading value is such an important piece of the puzzle going forward.  The Sox literally have no one else with star value potential.  They already seemingly passed up a decent deal this spring because they didn't want to put cash in with the Reds.  If his return is closer to Eloy than it is to Crochet, it does nothing to potentially plug a future hole.  They have got to figure out a way to get Robert comfortable again.

Cash crunch?  They're seemingly willing to eat smaller bites here and there...but they were very deliberate/intentional about no new FA contracts over around the $5 million mark.

The problem is they keep throwing away $25-35 million every season that could clearly  be much better more efficiently allocated across baseball operations, tech/analytics and infrastructure.

The problem is, they have no one in that lineup, or even in the minors to call up in which you have to respect as a pitcher. So with that stated, pitchers are able to throw whatever junk they want to him. Sox did nothing to sign some decent hitters to up his trade value. He needs protection and doesn't have it. If I'm a pitcher, why would I ever throw him a fastball even on an 0-3 count?

It's a Catch-22 right now with him in this lineup. Yes, you will see him flourish with some of the better lineups in the MLB. The Sox have an absolute putrid one. Might be bottom 5 hitting lineup ever put together by the time it's said and done.

He has to learn to lay off the junk and just take the walk. No swinging like he’s Javy Baez.

His value now is dropping like a rock and it's down to his speed, his D (except for last night), and the idea that he has done it before and he just needs a change of scenery.  They have to move him by August so be open now.

At this point, I'd look to the low minors of some teams like Philly or LA.  I would generally avoid trading with the Dodgers, but  it's really hard to get ripped off at this point, and at least the Sox have some knowledge of the Dodgers low minors and they have some talent.

Avoid at all cost Rule 5 guys.  We're shuffling through those guys right now (and not fast enough, imo).

Philly is currently playing a guy in CF who is doing better than Robert.

Yea, well so are 29 other teams.   Nevertheless, Philly has OF issues (as do certain other contenders).  It's a "change of scenery" thing and the price shouldn't be high.

It appears to me that Robert’s has become what Tim Anderson became.
The reasons may or may not be similar.

The fall off of the big 4 from the previous rebuild during what should have been their peaks years needs to be studied

Whether his approach has been aggressive or patient, his issue remains the same. Horrible pitch recognition. I've seen it suggested he needs to sit on a zone, but I'm not sure he can even recognize where the pitches are going enough for that to work.

I’ve been angry with Robert’s performance for quite some time but after last nights performance in Sacramento I’m now starting to feel sorry for him because he’s become an embarrassment. I wonder how much sleep he’s getting?

TA seemed to recognize pitches he could jump on, Robert seems to lack that ability almost altogether. TA lacked discipline but his attitude seemed to be why wait for a walk when I can hit a line drive into the gap. Robert is just lost

It's so weird. None of them are even "down a little." They are all just straight up horrible.

Robert Jr has never been the same hitter after he got hurt last season. It looks to me like the injury he suffered last year has turned him into a much worse hitter.

It's everything with Luis' offense. The obvious one is pitch selection, but even when he lays off pitcher's pitches, and swings at pitches he should, either his timing is off or he doesn't barrel the ball. He's either caught in between or caught off guard,. He's out-guessed constantly. I used to think he would do a lot better in a much better lineup, but now I'm starting to have 2nd thoughts. The great hitters don't need protection around them. They lay off the bad pitches and hit the ones they know they can hit. He doesn't do any of those things.
