Chicago White Sox
Coming back to the Mets, give me Ewing or Clifford as the headliner. Obviously very different players / profiles, but I’d like to come out of this deadline with one decent OF prospect even if they come with some warts. A CF would theoretically be ideal given the lack of them in the system, but power is an equally big org need and that is something Clifford would address. Either way, I prefer both of them to Gilbert and would be content with either as a centerpiece. Feel like Clifford might be more gettable than Ewing though.

DirtySox
https://fansided.com/mlb/mlb-rumors-what-im-hearing-eugenio-suarez-luis-robert-jr-padres-astros-more Quote Chicago White Sox may not move Luis Robert Jr. after all The White Sox are operating as if they will have Luis Robert Jr. under contract for two more years and are not operating with a “‘get something while we can stance,” according to major-league sources. Robert Jr., 27, has $20 million club options for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. He has struggled this season, hitting .206/.293/.343 with 10 home runs and 41 RBI. But in his last 28 days, he’s hitting .351/.442/.541 with a .982 OPS, two home runs and nine RBI in addition to four stolen bases. Still would prefer moving him now though if the right offer comes in and I think it will.

Any reasonable owner would realize giving LuBob $20M next season in hopes he nets a better return is smart. This is a big ask for Jerry, though, so I'm skeptical. DoUEvenShift
Maybe this is the Ishbia effect and we pay Robert the $20 mil? Maybe I'm just hopefully delusional.
DirtySox
I'd like to remind people how much teams clutch position player prospects lately. I wouldn't be surprised at a pitching return in the least.

I'm sorry that makes ZERO sense, get a bag of balls for him if you have to, ANYTHING is better than nothing. Again that is predicated on JR refusing to pay him his contract option for next year which barring something completely unforeseen and based on history would appear to be the case. Well, I assume they are assuming that the Sox would pick up his option and try dealing him next season, but we know Jerry isn’t approving that $20 million dollar option. chitownsportsfan
Ah yea, I'm sure the Sox are telling everybody they are desperate to trade Robert and will accept any offers! These guys, at least some of them, get paid to write.
DirtySox
My favorite trade deadline occurrence is people taking posturing at face value. It never fails. xD

I wouldn't be surprised at a pitching return in the least. I’ll be honest, we have not done great on the pitching side of things. I’m far from giving up on Thorpe, but he’s a big wild card at the moment. Iriarte has been a massive disappointment. Gonzalez is walking like 7 per 9. Wilson is doing ok this season, but was DFAed to start the season. Gilbert & especially Booser haven’t really hit the mark. McGough and AHT both retired / disappeared. Rosado is walking more than he is striking out in AA. Berroa out with TJS. Don’t disagree with your notion, but I might have more faith in the org’s ability to find diamonds in the rough on the positional side of things at the moment. And that’s saying something I have been a huge Bannister Stan for the most part, but the lack of progress with some of these pitches has left a bad taste in my mouth.
southsider2k5
Look the idea that holding on to Luis and seeing if you get a rebound next year is a sane one. The team is actually at such a low payroll ebb they could do this in concept. My issue is 100% betting on Luis Robert to be healthy, again. Even if he has actually been healthy this year for like the second time in his career, would you bet on him doing it two years in a row with $20 million on the line? Eh. For me, I would even take a decent pitching return to move him along and let the next team worry about it.

In theory, with the current payroll situation yes we could afford his $20M option no problem. The issue is will they pick up a $20M option? I still find it hard to believe that happens. You kept him for 2024 and that was a disaster. You held firm for 2025 and if it turns out no one is offering anything even slightly enticing you think they are going to commit $20M to him to see if maybe the third time is the charm? I completely agree with you, I don't think JR is going to sign off on committing $20M to the player after what he has seen now for the past 2 seasons.
