Anyone who thinks Tony LaRussa brought anything positive to this organization this time around is truly derranged.

  • I may be in the minority but I have no issue with them keeping Luis. They have nothing committed to payroll next year and no one knocking at the door to be an every day CFer. Also, I would consider ke

  • Oh no. Chris Getz maybe asked for a desirable target in trade negotiations. It's truly unfortunate dialogue ends completely after one player is inquired about.

When is someone gonna sub in for Clifford?

Sure things have drastically changed in Hahn vs. Getz. But Jerry is making the final decisions when it comes to contracts and handing out millions of dollars, and you can't convince me otherwise.

So what are you saying that you want or don't want Roberts option picked up ? It'll be moot when he traded.

I already stated my case plenty of times that Robert wouldn't deserve to make $20M next year. There's practically no chance of doing it that will result in a favorable trade for the Sox based on his last 2 years of production and his massive injury history and what they would be paying him.

part of me will miss having Robert. the Sox as an org being an abject failure for the last 20 years, running multiple top talents out of town via trade or just letting them walk will always make me hold a massive grudge against ownership. I'm pretty sure Robert will thrive after being dealt to a top flight org like the Mets or Phillies or SD, I have no doubt in my mind at all

Ok so I was in the old camp with "but if we give Harp-chado $600M, we won't be able to afford contracts to fill out the roster to support them!" And a friend finally convinced me - it's not my money to spend, so who gives a s%*# what they spend it on. Just spend them money.

It's not my job to be frugal with someone else's money to make the business case for them.

I don't care if we 'miss' on the extension and Robert gets injured again/has a down second half/turns into a literal pumpkin. Our payroll next year is a fart in the wind. Take the risk and extend him if it means a CHANCE at a better return if he plays to the ability that we know he can play.

If we extend him for $20M and he doesn't perform/get that return, I won't cry for Jerry.

Does the local Chili's have 24 hammocks for Irish patrons to rest on when they they are waiting for their table?

Banana hammocks, actually, and those babies aren't for resting; they're for parting.

Robert Murray still hearing they might not trade Robert

I wonder if JR really gave the OK to pick up the option?

Wow. Maybe he has gotten excited watching this young team and wants to make an effort to win in 26?

Unlikely.

If Robert is on the team, it would be Benintendi and Tauchman on the corners with the young guys on the infield. This is the team.

You saying that makes it sound like he isn’t moving tomorrow.

Cool with me, don’t trade him just to trade him.

If your going to spend $20M there are better ways to spend it. Has nothing to do with JR.

Plenty wish the Sox had signed some quality relief pitchers who are always hot commodities at the trade deadline but seems like that only applies to the high performance guys. I'm not saying I know where to spend it. I just know where not to spend it. The chances of Robert staying healthy enough and performing at a high enough level while making $20M to be a valuable trade chip seems pretty remote . If his performance over the last 3 weeks has convinced you otherwise we' ve been deceived by his potential way too many times to trust that he's anything but a bundle of talent in a too fragile body. This is not a Garrett Crochet situation . Maybe put that $20M towards trying to identify a couple of Crochet type talents who are making minimal amounts of money who will be available. We may have one in Grant Taylor yet people here were suggesting trade him before he has even scratched the surface of his potential. That's crazy.  The Sox also identified 2 pretty good arms via the Rule 5 draft that didn't come close to costing $20M that may help the team for years to come. There is blocked talent languishing in other organizations that Getz is trying to trade Robert and Houser for right now.

It's not my money either but just wishing the money is spent on 1  often injured player with no future here seems  rather crazy and lazy. I prefer they make smarter choices with what little they are going to spend . I don't know who or what those smarter choices are to spend $20M on but I don't get paid to make those decisions. There's a whole world of players out there and I'm not going to pretend I can pick just 1 player to spend it on that will actually help the rebuild.

But you’ve been saying Robert is for sure gone. What changed?

I think your reading too much into this. I think he still thinks Robert is getting traded.

Yeah, not sure what this means.  Are they still hung up on Vientos, or are they using their "desire" for him to actually get someone else?

Hopefully it means the Sox actually want Clifford and not Vientos as the headliner.

I like Vientos.

I think it would have to be JR willing to pay $20M on an otherwise cheap payroll to have the closest they'll get to a "star" name in the lineup to sell some extra tickets.  With the reports that he has a decent market now, it's certainly a gamble that they'd increase his trade value enough by holding him a year and spending $20M in the process.
