What is his arbitration estimate, $10mil+ right? he was already bad and somehow regressed, you have to think the leash got shorter...look at TA for example, I'm more shocked he was non-tendered than I would be if Vaughn is. I think Elko isn't on the team yet because of Vaughn's entitlement at bats, but I can't imagine it lasts into next season. You'd love to see Elko get a cup of coffee at least in a wasted season. It’s time to accept the fact that you either drafted a bust or failed in his development. He won’t be on the team next season. He’s a sunk cost at $5.85 million for this season. Vaughn was signed at $5.85 million, avoiding arbitration in early JAN. Pretty sure it was somewhere in the vicinity of $7.5-8 million on the player side. Look at Ray Ray Run
Still having a good chuckle over Tim Elko selling tickets... I guess if we're counting his friends and family he'd add a few to the crowd.

Yes, he should be called up because Vaughn is so terrible but the hype for a 26 year old “prospect” is a bit funny. People coming into their own at 26-27 isn't insane or completely out of the ordinary. He probably isn't but there's a non-zero chance he's a guy. Those exit velos should give some hope that he's a different player than he was. Edited April 30 by Look at Ray Ray Run
hogan873
It would be hard to be worse than Vaughn, so if Elko is called up at some point he'll probably look better than he actually is. He'll most likely strike out a lot and have some frustrating at bats. But, the fact that he hits the ball in the air, and his exit velocities are eye-catching, he'll be more palatable to watch than Vaughn. Getz's comments yesterday don't instill a lot of confidence that he will be called up anytime soon.
Harry Chappas
The case of Tim Elko is odd in that he seems to have made enough noise in the minors to be noticed and the person blocking him is living on aluminum bat days from the last decade. They are clutching their Andrew Vaughn pearls going back to making him a LF and RF because they had to have his bat in the lineup every day. A bat that was never close to covering up the weaknesses of being short and very non-athletic. He is the poster child of the epic failure of this franchise, Hahn and Getz. What harm is it to flip he and Elko just to see what may happen. This organization hasn't changed at all they rush certain players inexplicably but also sign shitty vets to block some youth. Why in holy hell are Amaya and Palacios part of this organization same with janakowski, maton, etc Good they are awful at their job. 2 1
Snopek
This is all so dumb. Elko has earned a look, while Vaughn has done nothing to earn more at bats. Elko will probably be bad, but we already know Vaughn is bad. Plus there’s an (extremely) outside chance that Vaughn can fix something in AAA.

Jankowski already dealt to TB for cash considerations. 2/5 in three games since recall. Maton gone, too. That basically just leaves Amaya and Palacios...and Vaughn. 46DidIt
He was drafted in '22, began '23 at low A, advanced to WS after 66 games and then Birmingham after 31 games where he played 30 games. Restarted AA in '24 and advanced to AAA where he played 48 games, and has now been the best hitter in the minors less than 24 months after he was playing in Kannapolis. What else could he do? Either he can hit or he can't

I don't think Elko will ever get much of a chance with the sox due to his huge swing and miss stats.

chitownsportsfan
Vaughn and one "Michael Massey" on KC now pulling away for the worst fWAR in MLB. They are tied at -.9 fWAR. As I posted yesterday, literally nobody with his track record has been given 2400+ PA in the last 5 years in MLB. He's been given the longest rope and he's done nothing but hang himself with it over and over.
