Free Tim Elko (Back in Jail)

Vaughn needs to go part time. He is an entitled prima donna. Call up all of the catchers with Elko and load the lineup. Let's see some talent.

I'm not supporting anything.

I'm just saying that reading between the lines of all the comments from Getz down to Thames, they want players with less swing and miss on the team and throughout the organization.

Also saying that take offensive production from Charlotte with a skeptical eye because historically that ballpark inflates stats.

Everyone can  argue for Elko all they want but the organization doesn't seem to like what he has and his glaring weakness is swing and miss.

Actually does sound like you agree with something. Not sure what though. I'm not sure of management's intentions accept that Vaughn appears to be a priority while Elko is not.

Not sure why Vaughn would be a priority. Not sure why any bad player would be prioritized over any prospect doing what Elko's doing.Them you me ,none of us know what he will be. I do know one thing he deserves a chance and soon. We all know power hitter usually comes with a lot of Ks in baseball. They came with Babe Ruth, they came with Mickey Mantle , and Mike Trout, Kyle Schwarber who the Cubs non tendered and became one of the most prolific HR hitters in baseball . He still Ks a lot and walks a lot.

I'm sure Elko will get a shot. I'm just not down with them taking their sweet time about it while they've been assembling numerous AAAA types to play over him who have had their shots to play in MLB without success.

It just appears like they aren't interested in a development success story despite putting the effort into him that has rapidly paid off.It makes little sense . You can't explain that away.

Om not agreeing either way. Vaughn hasn't shown anything special. Elko ks too much too be good. I'm just trying ot figure put why the Sox don't like him and that's all I can come up with.

Vargas at first and Rojas at 3rd unless Ramos  starts hitting is probably the best right now.

Edit: I think what I agree with is that Elko won't have much of a chance for success. However ivwpild give him a chance over Vaughn, if those are the only choices.

Ramos hasn't been doing all that much to impress, either.

Regardless, you have to try to switch out Palacios and/or Amaya for Gray, Julks or Elko just to try something new or different.

Either one of those guys can be DFA'ed off the roster without either being claimed in order to put Julks back on again.

After seeing the clowns they have run on to the field the last two years, it is fair to question if this franchise even knows what it is doing.

I have no hope in that.

I just see this organization's idea of improvement is the usual 2nd place flrting  with .500

Since this is a tougher division it will be the battle for the basement.

They will also be the armpitamy of why prospect and farm rankings are meaningless.

It seems like the only thing keeping Vaughn in good stead with management (other than his contract) is Steve Stone's on-air promotion of him.   Not sure why Stone continues to back Vaughn like he is a relative but no time to play favorites.  Vaughn invariably fails in clutch situations, so much so that it has become maddening.  Scouts have had the book on him for years and that book continues to work time and again.  Enough already. Give someone else his at-bats.

Haha, so true.  I think it’s mostly that Stone Pony has been hyping Vaughn up year after year practically guaranteeing that he was going to break out eventually…  and it simply hasn’t happened.  Stone Pony’s ego is too massive to ever admit he was wrong, well, that and he has gone full company man since his Cubs days of actually being critical of those teams when they were bad.  He’s just saving up as much as he can for retirement at this point.

What makes AV an entitled prima Donna? Literally strikes me as the opposite. Simply due to that Osik dudes tweet?

AV has hit in 6 of 7 games and reached base in 12 straight. Still hitting the ball hard. Maybe just maybe things are turning a bit.

He's definitely not a prima donna.

He's just not good at baseball

James McCann 2020

"The talent is off the charts,” catcher James McCann said, the day after Vaughn hit his first spring homer. “You see that in his work on a daily basis. You see that just in the way he swings the bat in the cage. You don’t need to see the ball jump off his bat. But he is one of the first guys in the cage every morning. He is one of the first guys in the clubhouse every morning. He gets his work in and he keeps his mouth quiet. That’s what is impressive to me, the way he goes about his business.”

McCann reinforced that point in a short conversation with Vaughn on Saturday morning.

“‘I just want to let you know it is not going unnoticed the way you go about your business,’” McCann said he told Vaughn.

“‘Keep doing what you are doing. I know myself as well as other players notice the way you do things. There are people that make decisions above our pay grade that notice the way you go about your business.

“Keep doing you.”

Have him replace Amaya on the roster. You've got Meidroth, Baldwin and Rojas who can cover SS.

It will be interesting to see whose at bats he takes. DH time from Quero, playing time from Vaughn, Vargas or Rojas with the 3B/1B mix.

Who do we trust more, McCann (who we know prepared for games pretty meticulously) or a guy that Vaughn beat out for a role in the minors?

Obviously, it may have changed after Vaughn's rookie year when he's trying to prove himself.

i dont buy Vaughn is lacking any effort anyone else has. Could very well be he did workouts separately from the Osik group. the main takeaway here is MLB is super difficult and high draft picks bust all the time. during Vaughn's career MLB pitching underwent a total sea change and there was no adaptation made to that

He is what he always has been. He peaked in college. It happens.

I think Elko will be freed very shortly.

Drury's not hitting right now at AAA, but does he complicate any of this? He probably resigned on the promise they'd fast track him to a roster spot, and Vaughn's probably keeping that one warm.

Just an odd career path, one that peaked really at age 23. He was bad but not horrific in LF and had the highest EV of his career and his highest xwOBA as a rookie. He's been horrific at 1B and although he's changed his swing to try and get more LA it hasn't resulted in any meaningful improvement in his overall offensive output. He doesn't take his walks and cheats on fastballs leaving him vulnerable to junk away and fastballs in.

It all adds up to a guy that after today's game will have 2400 MLB PA and been replacement level or worse for his career.
