June 12, 2025Jun 12 If this draws a big crowd it is a huge deal (will it?). As such you'd think the Pope would give the homily. Not that difficult to tape a 10-minute homily in Rome and play it on the scoreboard. Certainly the Pope knows about this Mass at his fave park.

Supposedly he will be making an appearance on the scoreboard. I assume it is being taped ahead of time.

Interviewed a few of his teachers and friends that are still local. Had some video well wishes and stories. Cardinal Cupich asked some kids questions. Music by some different people and the Leo high school choir. Mass was in English Spanish and Polish at different parts. Played the Peruvian national anthem and the national anthem because of his dual citizenship. Pope Leo's address was very well done probably 10 minutes long. Talk a lot to the youth and how they can shape the world. One of the funniest parts is during the mass when everyone stood up and sat down at the exact same time you could hear the creeks of all the seats. Since it was quiet for mass the sound was really loud and everyone started laughing including the Cardinal. Overall a very fun and interesting experience. Everything I saw on TV showed the ballpark not close to being sold out, some seated on the field so maybe close to 30,000. I’m sure if the Pope ever held a mass at the Rate, people would be hanging from the rafters but then again when John Paul ll visited Chicago in October of 1979 a mass was held in Grant Park with over a million in attendance. I went to the mass with UICC friends from the Newman Center in 79 in Grant Park to see JP2.
