Now that we've settled his fandom, time for a tough question for the new pontiff that will really fire up and divide fans:   Should the Sox stay at 35th and Shields or moved to the 78?  Or perhaps a new domed stadium in Dolton?

A Vatican Series to open the 2026 season?

For unspoken reasons I would like for him to come out very strongly in favor of the 78 spot.  Just wanna see something

Says something about something that the media flew with the "he's a cubs fan" thing. We get no respect.

Obvious Shirts had a "SOUTHSIDE RAISED, ROOTS FOR THE NORTHSIDE" shirt up immediately. Then got clowned.

They've since added Sox themed ones, but left up their other Cubs themed ones including "Go Pope Go."

We used to play Providence St. Mel way back when I went to Quigley South which no longer exists and is now a part of St.Rita on 79th and Western.  This was the basketball team in the South Central Prep League. Maybe not the same school🤣.

But Quigley South was a school that future priests went to .Quigley Preparatory Seminary South. I wouldn't be surprised if some my classmates or older brothers classmates knew him. I'll have to check my FB.

I graduated Providence Catholic in 2002.  My Uncle Jim went to high school and college with Pope Leo.  He was on a couple news shows yesterday and is the "Jim Priestley" seen here with the Pope in a couple photos.  Leo is the one with the checkered pants in the St Augustine photo.  Pretty cool!  Apparently he was over to my Grandparent's house in Tinley Park a few times growing up.

First, I am not catholic and nothing is meant to be insulting, inflammatory, or sacrilegious.

The Pope is I believe chosen by God so God knew this man would be Pope.  God has allowed the Pope's favorite team to be like this.  Are the Sox the Pope's pain like Paul's ailment?  Is the state of the Sox the Pope's penance or a means to keep him humble?  If it is to keep him humble, are we screwed in the future?  I remember Richard Dotson said the Sox were three players away from winning, "The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost".  If we have the Pope are we closer to the other three?   Could it be God doesn't care about sports?  So many questions......

Again, all this is meant in fun.

Look up a fella in the Bible named Job

With Elko coming up, Leo can scratch off one miracle. Must be nice to knock the first one off so early in his tenure, really takes the pressure off for sainthood.

If the Sox win 50, that's 2.

Absolutely, Brooks did a great job and apparently a hat and jersey are already on their way to Rome.

The Tribune also updated and changed Sully's earlier column on his fandom:

What I saw in my morning paper was the most half-assed apology possible.  Balanced but hardly fair.  Figures.

The ABC network ran a one hour special tonight on the Pope and had a segment in it about what team he roots for, the spoke with his brother who again said he is a Sox fan.

These interviews with the two brothers are a riot. "He's my younger brother. When I see him I'm going to take off his hat and give him a noogy." My gosh that's one of the greatest quotes of all time.

It seems the Pope was calling his one brother after he got named Pope and the brother had missed two of the Pope's calls. The brother said he was with media all day and he said 'congratulations,' and the pope said 'thank you' and hung up cause he 'wasn't ready for any of that (media)."
