Sox trade Andrew Vaughn to acquire Aaron Civale

Civale would’ve been a decent bullpen option. Better than some of the guys out there for sure. Not sure why they let him go, unless they did him a favor in allowing him to be in the bullpen on a better team.

Probably to catch on with a playoff team. I think he's proven what he wanted. Be a long man for the last month, get well over the winter, and market himself as a back of the rotation arm. Hell, Soroka got $9M for that.

Vaughn was only hitting for a 97 wrc+ in August (so far only 1 ab in September so it doesn't really count yet).

His strikeout to walk rate was still better than in Chicago (14/8 vs around 20/5 or so) but power has really cratered to a .125 iso in August which is not only way lower than what he did in July (365 iso) but also lower than what he did in Chicago.

Maybe it actually was more of a hot streak rather than a real change.

629 OPS last 30 days. 410 OPS last 15 days. 678 OPS on the year. Same old below replacement Andrew Vaughn. Brewers caught a little lightning in a bottle but if they keep trotting him out there it will cost them at some point I'd imagine.

Getz turned down offers for Civale at the deadline, only to cut him a month later.

Use the trading periods, Getz.

The Red Sox being more interested in Civale than Houser isn't quite "killer trade offer on the table.

Vaughn was worth -1.8 on the Sox, currently sitting at 1.2 with the Brewers. A staggering difference of 3 WAR between the two stops.

48 Games W/ Sox - .189 / .218 / .531 (SO% 22.3 - BB% 3.6)

52 Games W/ Brewers - .307 / .368 / .865 (SO% 14.6 - BB% 8.0)

Looks like his slump is over and he’s been hot so far this month.

Meh, I still don't think he's magically great now but its always frustrating to see a high first round pick fail miserably for years and then as soon as he is given up on its like the light switched on.
