My candidate for "surprise trade" is Lenyn Sosa.

Anything is possible, although I think Sosa is worth more to us than anyone else.

I mean let's be honest.  They might say they want the Sox to be where players come to revive their careers, but in all honesty, right now it's the place they go when no one else wants them.

Great post. They should have traded for him at his peak. Usual great insight from you you, bud.

He's cooked. Though, I'd still rather see him than Clevinger.

I still think about this video whenever I see Syndergaard’s name:

Apparently this is not the one with the Syndergaard bit at the end….

Good luck with that. It's the opposite and the only purpose to "revive their careers" is to make Birmingham better.

Then those revived players hope to get traded to a team playing meaningful baseball.

Imagine if one works out and the Sox offer like a 2 year contract? I can't imagine that.

Yeah, I have a hard time seeing the upside, other than possibly giving you innings. If he looks great? He may get an MLB deal with a better team next year.

Yeah, unless is is a 1+1 type of deal, there isn't any upside to this deal for the Sox.  They can't fix him soon enough to show the rest of the league he is fixed before the deadline.  This almost certainly about filling innings in 2025, and nothing else.

I think it's more of a "is he fixed?" thing.

If he isn't already fixed, there's no point to this.

I would be pretty shocked if he was fully OK, and no one else was willing to take a chance on him.  Pitching is such a needed commodity by pretty much every team in baseball.

This is a no-risk, no downside signing. The odds of anything coming from it, I have to believe, are very, very small. But we'll see.

As has been pointed out, all the young arms are going to become tired out soon. Some very soon as seems the case with Shane Smith. The Sox need people to cover innings. I don't like it, but Clevenger seems like he will be one. So maybe Thor too . . .  They're gonna need arms.

Has anyone heard anything on Martin Perez?  Is there any realistic hope he could be throwing by July?  End of July?

No option for 26?  We are going to pay the guy about a million dollars in 2025 for filling innings.  If he keeps Clevinger off of the roster, I will count it as a win.

A team option for 2026 would have been cool.

After this I wonder if Getz hit up Mark Buehrle while he was shooting his commercial?

Paying $1M to save young arms seems fine.  Also solidify a high pick if he sucks.

Kenny always gets his guy!!!!

Sorry, muscle memory.

Getz is just trying to sell more tickets for Jerry later in the season.

”Come see the return of Thor at Rate Field!!!”

It's like seeing a washed up rock band, whose last hit was pre-disco, at the county fair with their one remaing living member so you can see them play their one hit.

While he could probably hit more homers than Josh Rojas in the same number of at bats, he is more likely to get hit by the return fire of 115 mph exit velocity balls rocketed by the batters he faces due to his now gas can arm.

He's totally going to be on this team once Houser/Civale are dumped. Expecting absolutely nothing - he looked cooked with Cleveland.

Another Joey Gallo type signing.

Kind of like how The Field of Dreams was where dead players came back to relive their careers!  Very little difference.
