Getz on trade deadline...

Recommended Posts

Quote

‘‘When you still watch Luis Robert play, you are looking at a guy who can change the game pretty quickly — and in a lot of different ways,’’ Getz said. ‘‘Those types of players are hard to find. That’s the reason why there’s a lot of attention on Luis Robert. He’s performed at a high level, and to find talent like that is not easy.

‘‘We’ve never been out there making phone calls about Luis Robert; it’s teams calling us. We have conversations, and we stick to the plan that we’ve been working by.

He's right, if you want a guy that can kill a rally with an awful AB in a key inning he's your guy. Just stop blowing smoke up our asses, please. We all know his value is at best a B- type headliner at this point and maybe a lotto ticket or two -- at best. Edited by chitownsportsfan

What's he supposed to say? He sucks and we're dumping him for nothing

There's a grand canyon between what he said and what you said. He's been barely above replacement level going on two straight seasons. You can't blame health as he's been (for him) relatively healthy the last two seasons.

There isn't a single person working in MLB that will move their opinion one iota on Robert after hearing his GM say he's a game changing player. Not a single one. So who is the audience for those comments? Robert himself? That's the charitable view.

Oh goodness gracious lol. It's fluff! Stop being so offended about it. He's going to use that fluff against other GM's and if he isn't doing that he should be fired.

If they had done that over the winter, we wouldn't be here at a low point.

Hindsight and opposing GMs talk the talk but then they stop and think about it.

I don't hold it against them for taking this risk. It's not like they are the only team that has done this.

He would've been traded but the sad reality is a poor farm system and no suitable replacement.  Imagine they have this lifetime hole in CF.

I do wonder how this organization can produce players that turn into basket cases.

In my perfect world there would need to be an owner to by the whole organization and have people in place, fire all of the former people but have them interview for their job.

I have no idea how Ishba would repair this organization but he has to starting thinking about it. Who knows how long it will take to repair the damage,

The one thing that needs to go is the former player syndrome. The people that were employed as coaches or office is just a reminder of mediocrity. You have to put in people from winning organizations.  That's means no Getz with his Royal envy.

I'm starting to think Robert is beyond repair.  If I think that what is stopping a real GM of thinking the same thing. It will be adding another non prospect this organization is so great at creating.

Gut just about everyone. Hire the best person available to be President of Baseball Operations and GM and let them pick everyone else and stay out of their way.

This is, at most, 9 years away so Getz will either prove he is or isn't that guy during this time.

other GM, "Can't wait to fleece that guy".  They'll try to 3 team trade where the s%*# team always get burned.  It's almost like bullying.

I have no clue how any other GM would operate under Reinsdorf.  I doubt any of them really would want the job.  But the reality is most organizations would have fired Getz as farm director.  Let's not forget he was also a big voice in the Grifol hire and now you know why it took that long to fire him.

It's really not that serious and it's negotiation 101. I don't care how full of s%*# he is.

And if he had a great first half, it would have been a horrible decision to move him in the winter. And if you were sure he’d be bad this year, then you shouldn’t have refused to give a prediction on his WAR this year when I asked you to make one.

5 people upvoted a post here that implies that it's important to fluff your players in the media because it raises their trade value. Some people prefer to live in a fantasy land I guess. Here in the real world a GM blowing smoke about a player's value hasn't ever made one single fucking amount of positive difference.

Maybe just maybe it's because I'm right. Scary thought I know.

All other MLB teams have access to all the footage in existence of how bad Robert has been for approximately the last 1.5 seasons.  It’s not just Sox fans with this knowledge.

He should have just said he wasn't going to go into specifics about players that may or may not be on the block.  Yes, everyone knows he's blowing smoke, but instead, he opened mouth and inserted a Getz/foot.

and he still needs to do a sell job about how great he is. Whether that equals out to anything who knows but they still need to go through the song and dance. Which is why it's probably a day of deadline trade.

TBF part of the reason I jumped on it is because of Hahn's BS for years. Dude was a silver tongued snake.

I like that part of your argument about him being fired.
