RIP Big Bad Bobby Jenks

I did not think this death would have me this emotional. I legit cried hearing about the news then I cried again when I saw the White Sox video on him.

2005 was one of the greatest years of my life. That championship was the amazing cherry on top. RIP Bobby. Thank you for everything you gave to the game and to this city.

I'm speechless. Aside from Nancy adapting the Na Na song to White Sox baseball, I personally think Ozzie making the "hulk sign" when calling for Jenks is one of the funniest, coolest, most special things in Sox history. Makes me laugh to see Ozzie not wave his right hand but do the "hulk" when summoning Bobby. Rest in peace Bobby. You were a star closer. Very sad to hear of his passing. Enjoyed hearing Ozzie's take/memories.

Same. Watching Rowand in the memorial video has me ugly crying. The Rockies taking a moment of silence had me tear up again.

Dude overcame struggles to reach the majors, became a monster closer, struggled again, became sober and settled down and then had this horrific finale.

The happiest memory I have of my dad is him dancing with glee at Bobby hugging AJ. Losing him hurts a lot.

Devastating news.  I was such a Jenks fan that I custom made a jersey in 2005 when he was first called up.  He will always and forever be a favorite of mine.  RIP brother.

Same here.  Unfortunately I lost it at some point but he was one of 3 customs I had.

RIP Bobby and thank you so much for 05!

RIP Bobby

If anyone hasn't read this article he wrote back in 2019 about what he went through I highly recommend reading it:  https://www.theplayerstribune.com/articles/bobby-jenks-baseball-scar-tissue

Also ESPN still fucking sucks. "on the roster when the franchise won the 2005 World Series" ON THE ROSTER??? ARE YOU TRYING TO IMPLY HE DIDNT DO ANYHTING? DID YOU WATCH THE FUCKING POSTSEASON?

I didn’t realize Jenks only saved 6 regular season games in ‘05 but 4 post-season games.  I recall they started the season with Shingo (don’t remember his last name) as their closer.  He got dumped for Dustin Hermanson.  I recall Hermanson hurting his back and I thought Jenks took over the closer role earlier than he did. The last out of game 4 is one of my top sports moments of my life.  Rest easy big fella.

Much has been made of Ozzie Guillen's wide and tall hand gesture to call for Bobby to come in from the bullpen. I thought it was genius  if not ingenious.

Ozzies gesture may have made it appear that he was bringing in Sasquatch  or some giant....he was !

My son has a signed authenticated poster showing Bobby in his classic pose with arms up as the Sox clinched the Series.

I am going to get a Jenks 45 jersey before I go to the next game.

IIRC, Ozzie has talked about that before. I believe they had 2 right-handers up in the pen and he wanted to make sure they sent in the right one.

Very sad news...

I feel particularly lucky now to have witnessed in-person his first career save in the Metrodome in 2005. It is pretty amazing that he came up from the minors, became the closer, and then closed out the World Series in the space of a few months.

Thanks Bobby!
