Robert stays...

What’s he supposed to say? I was really hoping to get gtfo of here. I wanted to go to a contender.

As I said yesterday, the dude seems to play to the ability around him. Add a couple pitchers and a power bat in the offseason and who knows? Maybe we have a fun season or at least can use him as a trade chip next July.

(thanks Ishbia money!)

He could say lots of things. He's said stuff like he didnt know if anyone would want him the way he was playing. And this is the only place Ive ever known. Seems pretty humble and genuine. It's not unusual to say something like we'll see what happens I know theyre trying to move me. We can't assume hes just saying what he think sounds right. He's not a politician.

I guess I just doubted that a bit when he hired Boras.

That was mostly for after the Sox traded him after he had a big year this year. But anyway you slice it if he played well he gets traded and he still has 2 option years . So Boras cant do anything for him if the options get picked up.

Nightengale going after the Sox/Getz

"Sure, the White Sox didn’t get the offer wanted for center fielder Luis Robert Jr., who’s having another injury-prone, underperforming season. But guess what? No team shopping their position players got what they wanted either.

The White Sox not only didn’t move Robert, but now are planning to throw bad money after bad money and pick up his $20 million option.

If no one wanted Robert bad enough at his $15 million salary, why would they want him at $20 million? And what happens at next year’s trade deadline if they still can’t unload him? Would they throw another $20 million his way and pick up his 2027 option?

Please, make it make sense."

Does Nightengale not know how low the starting payroll is going to be for the start of next offseason?  Maybe he isn’t as tight with Jerry as we all thought?

Here's what I wrote:

"They're 17-17 since June 20. That's right around 1/3 of the season that's in the books."

If you can't tell the difference between what I wrote and what you're saying, there's really not point in responding to you.

Harrelson's 54 - 34=20

Only off by 37%.

Wasn't he JUST criticizing the White Sox for not giving him away?

Its not a given  that keeping him will pay off. That still has long odds.  He has to stay healthy, hit and keep hitting. A few more dingers would certainty help. He's not going to keep hitting near . 400.

There is room for criticism and this tweet where he seems to be just being factual.

You could do what Nightengale does better than he does if you had sources.

He just put up 1 fWAR in about a month of action. Dude is stupidly talented when his mind is right and he's healthy. I see he's mostly cut out those crap half swings he was doing most of the last calendar year. He still needs to work on his LA but just being a productive regular again is nice.

It's not a given, sure, but it's also not the impossibility he implied it was only days ago when he compared Robert to Anthony Rendon, said the Sox shouldn't/wouldn't pick up the option because no one thinks he's any good, and suggested it was basically negligent to not trade him for a bag of balls.

Who knows?  If Robert stays hot for the rest of the season and ends up with an .800+ OPS, 20 HR, and 40 SB, I wouldn’t be surprised if a contender is willing to trade for him in the offseason.  1-year at $22 million or 2-years at $40 million isn’t a bad deal for a 28-year old potential All-Star CF.  You aren’t going to be able to sign a player like that for that kind of minimal contract length and money in free agency.

Some very good teams roster a center fielder for his defensive skill. Robert has that in abundance including a fine arm and can run the bases like the wind. Can he stay healthy and will he hit? I would keep him for an important defensive position alone, and you if healthy he will hit something. Maybe alot, but $20million? I wonder what Getz is thinking?

He's thinking, "whatever JR tells me to do with Robert, that's what will take place..."

Listening to Stoney tonight, he sure seemed to be preparing Sox fans for the possibility that they trade Robert this offseason.

That would be fine. He’s not a long-term piece.  And asking for starters on contenders’ certainly wasn’t a serious effort in July. Maybe it’ll be more successful in December.

just stop trading for AAAA players. That is not a market inefficiency- those players are not undervalued.

If it was, Charlotte would be the most efficient team in the world..

He would have to OPS 800 for almost the final two months just to get back to 700.

Unless you think he can carry 900+ until the end of the year...

Not a surprise.  Jerry may have approved Robert’s $20 million dollar option but I’m sure he doesn’t want to actually pay it in full.

Slater and Houser were traded.  A righty bench bat OF and a usually mediocre SP that had 11 good starts.  Teams weren’t ever giving up good prospects for them, which makes sense.  They are normally just two mediocre cheap vets.  I hated the Vargas trade last year but I’m not sure what you expected for two scrubs like Slater and Houser.

Luis has officially gotten his xwOBA up to the 50% percentile. At this point, without some bad luck (expected numbers are about 20% better than actuals) he'd be on a 3.5 WAR pace with the horrible start.

Insane that no one traded for Robert. He really could have been the x factor of the entire trade deadline.
