Tim Elko was one of those punted picks. It's just the wrong way to look at the draft. I always put the players in order by signing bonus. Many players taken in rounds 11-20 are more highly regarded th

  • This is the best news they could have received from these meetings. I do question Getz referring to it as an honor. Dude, it pretty much means your team really sucks.

I seriously doubt Jerry has any real influence on the draft. And Tony may share his thoughts, but he is just one voice in a broader decision-making group. This pick will come down to Getz & Shirley’s views on the top players.

Hopefully Tony and Jerry are nowhere near this process

I guess I dont understand what is being alleged. The draft powers at be Shirley and Getz want the more ready Roch who can quickly go through the system for a winning window to open now, but that might be kiboshed by an 81 year La Russa influencing a 90 year old Reinsdorf who may sell the team as soon as 2029? How does that make sense?

I just will have a major Karen event if the White Sox value system timing with the bloody #1 overall pick over the best player available period. Criminal

It does not at all sound like that in that shared snippet. Just its a bonus, and wouldn't make sense for the geriatrics to push against

If you pick Roch, it has to be to make him the SS. As for Carlson, I will be stunned if he’s still in the organization in two years.

Is that based more upon him being traded as an expendable piece or thinking he will be traded at 21 years old because you don't think he was a good pick ?

I know you never liked the Gonzalez pick from the beginning. Is that why you said that about Carlson ? Are you on record as liking someone else who was left on the board at that time ?

That would be the most pathetic thing a man could do

I can think of far worse than picking the guy most consider the #1 pick especially if all analysis the Sox have done support it.

Now if you mean making the safe pick without the support of your scouts and all other metrics just because you don't want to create some kind of negative buzz I'd call that strange but the best player doesn't always turn out to be the 1-1 pick anyway so even if you think it's pathetic the results could still end up looking like genius.

As long as he makes the pick based on the guys he hired to give him advice are heeded I'm good with whoever Getz picked. No matter what he does ,whether or not he listen to staff or ignores them, he's still picking one of the top 4 guys and there's still a chance that none of them turns out to be the best choice after 6-10 years .

No, choosing based on consensus is pathetic

I can only tell you that I've been told by multiple people that JR did have a lot of say in the draft, to be fair I don't know if that is the case now.

Here's one example from a source who covered the team for years:

“With :30 seconds left in their selection time on draft day JR would say things like “You know this college right-handed pitcher has the lowest injury risk.”

A pitcher with the least risk?

Probably Kyle McCulloch or Lance Broadway lol.

The consensus of who? Nice to know you don't care about getting the player who actually turns out to be the best. It's a crapshoot accept it.

I agree with this, but if you look on twitter, if getz picks anyone but Roch the pitch forks will be out, which is ridiculous given the type of talent you can get if you go with Lackey or Emerson

Listened to Chuck’s podcast the other day with Emerson’s HS coach. I couldn’t help but notice he kinda hedged/talked around his power. “He’d rather be a hitter” is not what i want to hear about a possible 1-1 pick. Not a fan of the Madrigal/Vaughn/Carlson style hitter who puts contact above power.

It is absolutely Roch it seems.

I didn’t come away with that from that interview. Still seems like any of the big three positional guys are in play. I will say I still think it will be Roch as Shirley has been on the kid since his HS days.

Because it’s the White Sox…?

Who would Chowlowsky eventually replace (Montgomery, Vargas, Chase) and how much added value would he bring at that position ?

I asked AI on my phone where Roch would play if the Sox chose him and they said absolutely SS because he was the best all around SS prospect since Troy Tulowikski and experts all say at 6'4" Colson will need to move over to 3B....I told it to f&*%ing shutup....and it asked me to not use such language.

Depends on how quickly he would come up too. If Murakami isn’t here beyond next year, Vargas is a candidate to move over 1B and the rest of the dominoes fall.

40%. Times, they are a changin’

I am backing off of Chowlowsky a bit based in part on Josh Nelson's scouting but also considering the White Sox current needs vs long term needs. It's a bit of a crap shoot though.

To talk about objections to Lackey for a second…Teel is anything but an established entity. You don’t base your #1-1 based on a whisper of a concept. Especially when you’re so loaded with young winning infielders already. Kyler Gordon is a cautionary tale.
