Per Passan: White Sox sign Munetaka Murakami 2 years 34M

I’ve been consistent.  The Sox won’t be signing Murakami at all because Jerry is cheap.  Look at all the acquisitions thus far.  Kay is probably going to be the largest contract handed out this offseason.  But I’m not going to praise acquisitions like Hill, Murphy, Pereira, Peters, and Kay.  Let’s be honest — these are acquisitions that a garbage team makes.  Period.  The end.

A 2 year, $34 million deal, making less than Benitendi and less than 5% of Ohtani, is not proof that he is not cheap.  The point still stands.

And there it is…never a fucking doubt

  • He’s not much more expensive than O’Hearn would have been with an incredible amount more of upside and flip potential.  There is no downside to this deal, as let’s be honest, they’ve wasted 17 mil a y

Or on a more optimistic note: Add some guys that may be worth keeping in July?

If the season is going well they can.

This is nothing but a huge positive for the Sox and their fans. I don't care to hear about anything negative related to this. This signing combined with getting the No1 pick has been more than welcome positive news and no fan base deserves this more than White Sox nation.

Seriously, what an embarrassing quote

Was just about to post this.  This kid just wants to fucking hit bombs and win ballgames.  And the fact he’s already making adjustments for the MLB is fucking impressive.  I haven’t been this excited about a White Sox player in years.

For me personally, I was getting Jose Abreu vibes.....and I loved Pito.

You gotta wonder how much is left of JRs brain after that quote.

My first spring training was to go see Jose. Went to two more after that to see Moncada and Gio and others. Haven't bothered last several years. Might entice me back down this year for a few days. This move has invigorated quite a few White Sox fans here stateside and created new ones in Japan.

The more we try to pretend things are different, the more Jerry tries to tell us they aren't.

I am happy to be excited about Spring Training again, especially coming off another rough year.

I am going to squint really hard to try to find a .500 ballclub but they need more pitching. Get it done, Getz.

They left out the part where Ishibia behind the scenes greenlit it.  I'm guessing he's not the heavy hand yet - but he's certainly involved a bit more, but he's being very respectful at how he is handling it with JR.  But you know what - I get that it is obvious, but I'll take the White Sox doing the obvious...that in and of itself is a good thing.

Ah, forget about Jerry and join me in ordering Kentucky Fried Chicken on Christmas Day in honor of this joyous occasion..............."Kurisumasu ni wa Kentakkii"

When I was living in NYC my roomate's fiance was a FOB Japanese woman. From my understanding X-Mas in Japan is a romantic holiday and yea, time to get fried chicken. someone give JR a peck on the cheek for finally selling the team to someone that wants to compete.

I'm picturing Jerry getting visited by the ghost of Eddie Einhorn who warned him to sell the White Sox before it was too late...."This is your last chance Jerry.....a chance of my own procuring.....his name is Ishbia and if you do not sell it to him you will be haunted by White Sox fans for eternity and believe me you do not want that....plus they now have the Pope on their side so why risk it??"

I thought somebody just made the example here that getting the owner to exit their comfort zone is the sign of a great GM.

And they apparently got Ish to do it.

He probably ain't the leader, but Jerry is up there as a very stupid rich person.

There is a lot to unpack in the quote

Really shines light on why the organization has been so dysfunctional and unable to be consistently competitive

He was wondering why we are signing some unknown Japanese guy instead of David Eckstein.

I really need Mune to be good cause Vaughn broke up the Frank-Paulie-Abreu run of great first basemen.

I actually agree with you here. It is Getz showing more savvy in dealing with JR than Hahn era had. Still just farce to read in modern mlb.

JR must have been confused between the Brooklyn Dodgers/Rickey signing Robinson/Clemente and the LAD signing Ohtani/Matsumoto/Sasaki.

Well at least he knew who Shohei was because he "joked" derisively about never signing him and got scolded by Manfred.
