I should say - knowing we will have a new owner, I would take a shot and would trade real chips to go for a front line ace if they came available - including Skubal. But would want front office to commit to paying said player too.

They wouldn't get the comp pick. You have to be on the same team in the majors for the full season prior to free agency.

You do realize Shelton is hitting .167 with a .570 OPS in Birmingham? He has almost three thirty game samples in his minor league career . Last year was worse than AA. He raked at High A but that is one of the three samples.

Oh, he's been up at Birmingham a little longer than I realized.

Angels would love to get a high end upside prospect like Carlson out of this deal and they know him very well from being a local guy. Detmers is solid but he is not an ace or a true front end guy.

Detmers has been incredibly good recently and has 2.5 years left at an affordable salary. It’s not going to be cheap to get him.

Alright, gonna go full rosterbate mode here, but let’s say you add Detmers, Gray, & Chapman…

Lineup:

  1. S. Antonacci, LF*

  2. M. Murakami, 1B*

  3. M. Vargas, 3B

  4. C. Montgomery, SS*

  5. K. Teel, CA*

  6. B. Montgomery, RF#

  7. A. Benintendi, DH*

  8. C. Meidroth, 2B

  9. T. Peters, CF*

Bench:

  • IF: J. Gonzalez*

  • OF: E: Pereira

  • OF: R. Grichuk

  • BC: E. Quero#

Rotation:

  1. D. Martin

  2. R. Detmers*

  3. S. Gray

  4. S. Burke

  5. N. Schultz*

Bullpen:

  • CL: A. Chapman*

  • SU: G. Taylor

  • SU: B. Hudson*

  • MR: S. Dominguez

  • MR: S. Newcomb*

  • MR: W. Gonzalez

  • MR: H. Smith*

  • LR: T. McDougal

That team is legit capable of winning a World Series this year.

Is at the level of Anthony Kay stinkdom?

On the Anthony Kay stink meter, Andrew Painter is an 11... slightly worse than Anthony stinKay.

Last time Painter was good was 4 years ago. Still hasnt come back from the injury. And for that reason, I'm out.

How hard are the Giants rebuilding? How bad do they need 26-man spot? How pressed are they to save a couple of dollars? If he's fixable, he's a very cheap date.

Saw this trade proposal online. Would you do it? Would the Angels do it?

  • CWS get: LHP Detmers & RHP Bachman

  • ANA get: SS Carlson, RHP Lacombe, & CA Graterol

Sign me up. Doubt the Angels would value that package enough to pull the trigger and couldn’t get a better blue chip for Reid.

I would forgive them partially gutting the system for those three - mainly because they either are retained or are retainable AND because of our upcoming draft position.

What do you think the Red Sox and Angels would need to get those trades done?

It sounds like the Angels are holding onto Detmers (or at least are positioning themselves as such), so he might not be attainable. He’d certainly be the most expensive. I think Carlson + two good side pieces would be the minimum price.

Chapman is a rental closer but one pitching incredibly well. Looking at last year’s trades for rental relievers, I think you’re looking at one top 10 prospect and another guy in the 11 to 15 range. As for Gray, his cost will likely come down to how much money a team will take on. I’d expect him to be cheaper than Chapman if you absorb the entire contract and buyout.

To get both Chapman & Gray, if we eat most of the money owed, I’ll throw out Gabe Davis, Colby Shelton, Pierce George, & Tyler Schweitzer. That might feel light to some, but to me it reflects a fair discount for taking on Gray’s money.

How do you possibly sell that trade to your fanbase?

The Red Sox need talent a lot more than $$$.

The Red Sox literally gave up extra talent to get the Cardinals to pay off $20M of Gray’s contract in the first place.

What an insanely bold take.

That feels incredibly heavy to me, but I'm a classic prospect hugger. All of our garbage for all of their available stars. I think Gabe Davis and Shelton are dudes who hit a wall with the jump to AA. They'll figure it out and regress to the mean.

I guess your assembled package would get their attention, and maybe even send a little money along with Gray.

I hear the Spiders are pretty tough this year.

Nah, the real threats are the Blues, Bronchos, and Naps.

Get Aroldis Chapman to agree now for the mutual option next year at 13 million. Chapman 1.5 years for Jacob Gonzalez. Who says no?

I am tired of blowing leads. Chapman lets everyone move down a notch. He is older so will need some days off were Dominguez/Taylor get some chances. Wouldn't be surprised by end of year as rehab innings limits hit that McDougal is there perhaps in a bigger role than Hagen Smith. Taylor, Dominguez, Hicks, McDougal, Smith would certainly bring stuff to the table.

Hicks and especially Domingeuz are showing themselves to not be much good.

McDougal may not pitch at all the rest of the year, we'll see how he responds with his injury and ditto for Smith who even before he got hurt was walking hitters left and right.

As Sox Machine pointed out in depth last week in a detailed article the Sox have basically ZERO pitching depth in the minor leagues because they can't keep anybody healthy.
