We have no excuse not to buy a top-end SP in free agency this offseason. As such, I’d rather keep Bonemer and go with a cheaper SP at the deadline. I truly believe we should not be doing “all-in” trad

I like what Boston Smith has been doing but he has a total of 68 games in the minors. He has jumped up from A to AA and should be applauded but he will need time to develop behind the plate.

If he even sticks there. He has games in the OF as well.

I like not being stupid. That is good.

After Deitmars, Holmes is my second choice. Think he made some really convincing arguments.

Can the Sox add pieces this year that will make them a World Series contender or just help them possibly make the playoffs? The answer to that determines how much value you give up to get that piece or pieces.

This team is maybe a year away more likely 2, from being a serious WS contender. Until that time comes you can't be giving away any of your top prospects and I will be very disappointed if they do.

I assume that’s a main reason for the interest in Holmes.  Any mention of “top prospect” should result in an immediate dial tone.

SHEA LANGELIERS RIGHT NOW

So if Teel's injury is serious, we'll have to dip into the trade market. What catchers might be available as a rental?

Jonah Heim would be another.

Ben Peoples sporting a sub-1 WHIP currently. C'mon Getz!

Just play the 2 catchers who carried us for 75% of this season. Sure beats a "let's rebuild in 2027" trade.

Not a bad worst case scenario

Peoples will help get the Rangers to the playoffs, where we can do this to them again. Getz playing 4-D chess.

I think this might be the best name available at that position that we could get. We need a pure rental. He's been hot as of late and if Teel comes back, can probably move to a backup catcher. Shouldn't cost very much. Jeffers is also a good option.

My trade wish list given Teel's injury is one of two options:

2 starting pitchers and a catcher.

or

A starting pitcher, a relief pitcher and a catcher.

I know this will be unpopular, but I wouldn't waste trade capital on a catcher, especially for a rental. I'd prefer they burry Quero in the 8/9 spot and hope the lineup gives him enough protection that we see a resurgent 2025 version of him. Losing Teel will suck, but it's not like they had him all that long this season to begin with. Just focus on pitching and bullpen help, IMO.

What is a Boston Smith for? Already 23, raking in AA. Not much experience as a catcher or what? Must not be ready yet. Maybe when he’s 25!

"This year, with the help of (Wright State associate head coach) Jordan Chiero, I really took off. He always kept me going in the right direction to grow every day. He did a good job of making me understand that.”

His catching skills improved after returning to the position following two years in the outfield (started at Cincy) and a third season playing both infield and outfield.

“At the end of the day I wanted to win,” Smith explained about his original change of position from catcher to the outfield. “My mind wasn’t set on playing pro baseball, it was about winning. Then last year everyone got hurt and they needed a shortstop. I have a selfless mentality to do anything to help win games. I still did reps with the catchers, there was enough time to get my work in and stay fresh, and that ended up helping out this year.”

Smith pointed to “being a complete catcher” as what will be key in moving up the ladder of the organization quickly.

“God gave me a unique ability to hit and steal bases, not many catchers do that,” pointed out Smith, who is the only person in his family to play athletics beyond high school. “This is the first year since I was a junior in high school that I was a full-time catcher. If I continue to improve at that, which I think I can, I really like my chances.”
