Selling would be the single dumbest thing this franchisee could do. First, we don’t really have much to sell outside of Newcomb & possible Hicks. Second, it would be the ultimate gut punch to a young team that’s in the thick of a playoff race and a fan base that is finally excited about the state of the franchise.

A playoff team with nothing to sell is just a wild combination of words.

We have a new Chief Panican

This Gonzalez take is wild. Have you been watching the games? He looks like a plus major league hitter who can play anywhere in the infield. Multiple talent evaluators like Keith Law & Kiley McDaniel are believers. He had a rough stretch where stance got out of whack and has been insane ever since. Not sure how anyone could have watched him over the last two weeks and come to this concussion.

Yes, I have and I have no idea how you can call the guy a plus major league hitter right now.

We've all been talking about adding to this team so we can compete. The team started hot and were fun as hell to watch. However, the recent play by the team was a b**** smack back to reality. We've got some nice pieces, but are we ready to compete? I'm not so sure.

Is the smart play to sell some players to acquire talent that will help in a year or two? We haven't been great at developing starters. Should we sell our bullpen pieces for more talent? Taylor could potentially fetch a haul. Newcombe has been dy-no-mite. Hudson has been solid. Hicks looks FILTHY and is building his value daily.

Do we sell off our bullpen for pieces that will help in the next couple seasons? I'm leaning towards yes.

Great question and you can make the case for both results.

Sox in many ways are ahead of where they were expected to be (as shown by the lack of getting pitching this past off season) so do they try to take advantage of a weak division and go for it? Knowing that it could impact how things progress in the future and potential blowback from the fan base if they don't?

How much if any does the upcoming labor situation factor in? The probable lockout, potential loss of revenue which is always important to JR.

Do they stay the course playing the long game?

Lots of moving parts in the decision they make. And with so many teams still in the race, they may not be able to meet the price for getting say pitching help. It figures to be a sellers market.

No. It would be the worst PR move since the 97 white flag trade. In fact worse. We are literally tied for first place. Who knows what the future holds. There is a legit path to the ALCS. Go for it, within reason.

This team really has nothing to sell, if they're going to add it needs to be dirt cheap otherwise they should do nothing and continue to let the team in place grow.

I get why it’s not popular, but I have no problem trading Grichuk honestly.

We have enough young hitters that need AB’s that I don’t think it would leave a huge void, and Grichuk won’t be here next year anyway. Makes total sense to cash in if a team is willing to give up something interesting…obviously don’t trade him just to trade him though.

Newcomb would actually leave a huge void if dealt so not moving him. And I don’t think any of the other vet bullpen arms will get you anything interesting enough to warrant weakening an already weak unit.

Basically I’d just dangle Grichuk to see what the offers are. And we could sell Grichuk and still buy pitching…

What have you guys seen in the last 4 years that makes trading a player like grichuk meaningfully better than just keeping him? Have you guys been watching the same league?

I mean, if they did something crazy, they have a lot to sell. Newcomb, Hudson, and Taylor would fetch a fair amount. If they started marketing young controllable bats like Vargas, there'd be huge offers. So, they have pieces. They just should absolutely not do it.

Sell Colson he's a headcase just like Kopech. I was right then I'll be right this time.

Gonzo passes the eye test with me. He's got a sweet swing and seems to have pared back the strikeouts. He doesn't look overmatched, and I think there's more ceiling to find with plate appearances. He's given low positive fWAR at 1B, of all places. His bat plays better at 2B. He's solid defensively.

Is he a "plus" major league hitter? I don't know if I'd call him that, but he's a proven big league option in the infield with 6 full years of control. I'd guess any team could plug him into a position and he'd give average production.

I'd think Grichuk gets you a AA junk-baller like Slater did. He's a solid RH bench bat. Maybe Pereira can do that if he returns intact, but what's the point of trading Grichuk? Again, he doesn't bring back a prospect worth anything, and he probably doesn't get you a big league starting pitcher.

I really don’t see much value in trading him. He has been fun but you aren’t getting something great back for a OF in his 30s getting spot starts against lefties and pinch hitting duties. Even with his success this season

They're not selling but aren't necessarily buying either. It's all a lot of big talking points . Too many teams not throwing in the towel yet. Might be a frenzy of moves in the last few days and hours before the deadline . Maybe one starting pitcher and 1 BP arm. Not expecting big names.

I meant obviously within reason, it would be ridiculous to trade Vargas or Taylor at this point. Like you said, if they did something crazy they have pieces but I don't expect that's an option.

If a couple teams like the Red Sox stay hot, that takes a bunch of supply off the market. If a guy like Reid Detmers is really available, he's going to get bid up quick. I see the Cubs as "all in". This is their window. I don't necessarily see the White Sox as "all in". It's an opportunity, but not big enough to blow it all up to push the cart up the hill three more feet.

This team beat the two best teams in baseball in regular season series, so are obviously a World Series contender. But then again they got swept at home in a regular season series, so they obviously suck and should sell the team off for parts. They contain multitudes

I see Ron made the vote results private like a coward.

In the AL, the only teams who you could probably say are out of it are KC and LAA. Everyone else is within the playoff picture be it division or wild card. It will be an interesting deadline for sure.

I voted sell, mainly because I don't want to see them ship off prospect capital and because there was no option to do nothing.

The team is developing nicely, let it continue to grow and build the pipeline to the majors. I don't want to see them send off a good prospect(s) for 15 starts of Sonny Gray.

Besides needing help in the starting rotation, the team needs a righty power hitting left fielder, I have no idea how we get these pieces to the puzzle as we would have to trade probably one of our core players and I’m not sure we have what it takes in the minors. I would hate not to do anything as we are in this race. Pereira might fit the bill as the power guy in LF as Grichuk isn’t the answer but who knows when Pereia will be back. First things first, we need to win this series with the As and hopefully a sweep.

Agree, don’t trade Grichuk, we need him as a platoon DH with Beni.

They don’t really have any veterans to sell. Dominguez isn’t good, no one is giving you anything of value for a bench bat so might as well keep him (Grichuk). Pretty much just Newcomb
